Wedding Woes

I called 911 last night

It was after 8pm and the girls were in bed.  DH and I were in the living room watching a movie.  I heard a knock on the door.  DH had fallen asleep, so I woke him up and told him someone was here.  He looked out the window and said no car was in the driveway.

I went to the door and there's a woman I have never seen standing there.

Her:  I am not from this area and I got stranded.  I thought I'd just knock on some doors to see if I could get some help. ::looking back toward the street::

Me:  Well, what's wrong?

Her:  Well I got stranded.  I was wondering if I could get a ride?

DH:  NO.  NOPE.  SORRY.

Me:  Is there someone we can call for you?

Her:  I don't know anyone here. I'm from St. Louis and don't know this area.

She was fidgety and seemed off.  We just told her we couldn't help.  She said she understood and started walking down the driveway...but she didn't leave.  She started pacing on the sidewalk in front of our house.  We watched her for a minute before I told DH that I was going to call the non-emergency line to see if they could get someone out here to check it out.  He agreed.

Come to find out, the NE line is only staffed from 7a-7p.  She was making me nervous so I decided I was calling 911.  DH agreed again.

I gave them all the info and they were all "Yeah, don't open the door for her again.  We're sending someone."  They were there in 3 minutes and stepped out to talk to her.  DH and I were watching from the couch.  The only thing we could hear was the cop telling her to stay calm.

After 30 minutes, a big diesel truck pulled up and she walked over to it and got in.  The police drove away.  The truck backed up a few feet into our neighbors' driveway and just sat there for about 10 minutes.  Then it turned off the lights and engine.  I said "DH, THAT'S OUR NEIGHBOR'S TRUCK."  (it was dark, or else I would have figured it out as soon as she got in).

WTF?  We have no idea who these neighbors are.  I couldn't point them out.  We live on a corner lot with an old lady directly behind us (I could point her out) and a park to our left.  No houses across the street.  To the right is a side street with a house on the corner - these are the neighbors we don't know and where the truck is still sitting.

I really want to know what happened.

Re: I called 911 last night

  • All I can think of are those horror movies, eek.  I think you did the right thing...and what?

Who hires a call girl from St. Louis?  *making vast and sweeping assumptions and stretching the truth*

  • Trust me, O.  You are not the only one thinking that.  I also thought domestic violence, alcohol/drugs.
  • Good call to 911.
  • That is nuts.  And scary.
  • 1. Weird and scary.

    2. I would still be waiting on the police to come around here.

    3. No more door opening.

  • My first reaction would be that the unknown woman might have been a friend or family member with some mental issues, maybe dementia or something. Kind of knew where she was going, but wasn't sure or wasn't sure why ... the cop managed to figure it out from her and they contacted the neighbor she was looking for.

  • weird.
    Good call
  • @Twallers...glad I am not the only paranoid one!  I also get my DH to answer if someone is ringing our doorbell.  I NEVER answer the door unless I am expecting someone or recognize them.

Not scary, thank goodness, but I had a rando guy one time knock on my door for 10 minutes.  Unfortunately, the way my windows are, he could see I was home and sitting in the living room ignoring him.  So he kept knocking (rolling eyes).

My DH was in the backyard and happened to come up the sideyard and saw him.  Turns out, this guy was trying to sell stuffed animals (or something else equally dumb and useless).  But who does that!  I'm not answering the door, no matter how obnoxious you are, so GO AWAY!  Argh!!!

When I first moved in, I had two neighborhood kids...whom I didn't know and had never met...stop their bikes as I was getting out of my car and asked me to give them a ride home.  They were around 10-11 years old.  Ummm, what?!?  I told them I was not comfortable doing that and I didn't think their parents would appreciate a stranger driving them home either.
