The worst thing about fighting with your husband...

is being SO angry at him and seeing his last name attached to your first name.

Me to H this morning:

Re: The worst thing about fighting with your husband...

  • Ouch!  Rough morning?  Hopefully the end of it will involve wine, chocolate, and a nice massage from said H or at if not a great night out with the girls. :)
  • It was a really rough morning. He just flew in last night and saw that we received an unexpected (very large) tax bill from the town. And he freaked the fuck out, and we got into a fight. He called the town, and it was a mistake. We do not owe it. He's apologized multiple times, but I'm still mad. Yes, I'm stubborn.
  • Awww that sucks. FI and I got into a huge fight on Monday night, and he apologized profusely all day Tuesday, but I was not having it.

I hope tonight is better, and hopefully he will have some vino waiting for you later on :)

  • Ooo yea - I can understand the still fuming part - especially when it could've been avoided by calling the town first instead of flipping out and then calling the town.   You definitely deserve that wine, massage, and awesome dinner combo tonight....then you can forgive him. :)
  • Sorry :(. Fights suck so much. Hope you two have a better evening!

Why did he freak out on you? It's not like you created the tax bill. What were you fighting about?

He didn't freak out on me. He was upset about receiving the bill. The anger wasn't directed at me.

So, he was just upset in general and going on about it, and you were like "calm the heck down dude" and then he snapped at you?  Just trying to understand it.

  • Honestly we both freaked out. We were both in the wrong. All was resolved that day. Things are good now.
  • DH does the same thing.

He automatically freaks out over something like that.   It drives me nuts.  Any attempt to calm him down has the opposite effect.  I on the hand basically go "well that sucks, let me call them in the morning to see what the issue is".

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Maybe you should just steer clear of the relationship advice.

  • A few weeks ago I made a comment on a user's thread regarding her previous post about her relationship issues (at one point in the post she said something about having kids, and I said I hope she doesn't until stuff is sorted out kind of thing) and I got chewed out a bit "Was that really called for?", etc.  But whatever.  I just don't see why it caused a fight between OP and her DH.  *shrugs*

You've never dealt with something that pissed you off and your SO said the wrong thing to make the pissed offness worse, and then pull an asshole move of taking your pissed offness out on your SO?

Shrug. I assumed this is a normal part of relationships. The point is that you sincerely apologize and try better.

  • Hey I'm allowed to ask questions.

I also don't see how this caused such a big fight, but I'm well aware that stupid things cause fights once in awhile. But the point that the OP didn't accept her husband's apology over something so stupid, made me wonder if there was more to it.

The OP has been married for less than a month, and she's already having fights with her husband that she's pissed that they share a last name? And not accepting his apology?  I think that's extreme.

Oh give me a fucking break. This post was totally made in jest and I was venting. I am madly in love with my husband. We had a stressful week - I had to fire an employee and he had to fly down to Florida because his father was just diagnosed with Alzheimer's. So yes, we unfortunately got into a fight over something stupid. By the end of the day, we had both apologized, discussed it and moved on, like adults do.
I'd tell you that we're all good now, but I don't for one second think your post was motivated by concern. So thank you for reminding not to post about having a fight with my husband.
  • I understand the fighting with your husband.  I don't understand  the significance of sharing his last name.  I think that is why you received the responses.

OMG! I'm pretty sure that the last name comment was a joke as part of her venting. Good fucking grief.

While we were still in this fight, I was sitting at work changing my last name on work email. So it was a funny thought that popped into my head. You guys are reading way too much into this.

  • OY!  Comment made in jest.  After a stressful week.  I think @climbingbrideNY's been on here long enough that we can tell she's totally and utterly in love with her DH and is allowed to have the moments of jesting where she jokes about changing her last name.

Also - it happens where a fight, although over, can still make you fume.  I think she was still a bit in the fumming stage when she posted and added in the sarcasm.   Totally understand that.  You can be over a fight with your SO and still be a bit 'Really?' afterwards.

    Exactly!! Thank you.
  • This is being over analyzed. Arguments are part of a healthy relationship. I don't know about you but an apology doesn't instantly make me happy again. There's a cooling off period before I get to my happy place again. The reference to "but she's a newlywed" is absurd. I didn't know being a newlywed meant you had to be perfect and never fight.
  • To be fair, TK hasn't had much drama lately. It's not as much fun if we make our own.

Climbing B, I thought your joke was funny.
