No one is saying you have to pick. We're saying keep your comments and accusations of "being hateful" out of a conversation which you had no part in. You don't know those people or how they talk to each other, and I don't think she was being hateful toward anyone. I think she was making the comment that some people are so quick to prove they aren't bigots, that they 'kiss up' to people of a certain minority.

ETA: That doesn't mean the statement was not irrelevant, because it was. However, it was not hate speech. When I was hitting it with girls, I would have loved for people to buy me shit due to my sexual preference at the time.

Not gonna lie, I wasn't crazy about that thread. Not because the catfish didn't deserve to be called out, but because I'm extremely uncomfortable with the "pics or GTFO!" mentality. I don't necessarily want to share pictures of myself with an internet crowd, ya know? Obviously this was a special case because the Catfish had posted a jillion pics of "herself" in the past, so it's not like it was wrong in this particular context...I guess I just don't totally give a fuck about trolls to the point where I would take time out of my day to stalk FB, reverse-Google image search, and then...act really sanctimonious about it. Like, congrats, you're super cool?

Feel free to tell me I'm insane/an asshole, I guess. I just looked at that thread and saw a bunch of people who were WAY too invested in the internet.

I hear ya. I think that month board had gotten super close - closer than most of our boards here. If that same thing happened here, I'd shrug and move on. If it happened in the FB group I'm a part of with women from here, I'd be upset.

The entertainment factor of the situation/thread was high. However, in terms of the sleuthing that was done... I'd wager that if I had children, I might be a bit skeeved by the poster using pictures of other people's kids and passing them off at her own.

And I agree with the comments about them being way too invested in the internet--sorry Bump lurkers.  I'm not sure if I'm in the minority here but I have gotten to a point where I use message boards for informational stuff?  Not that I don't think there are many lovely people on here.. but the internet can be a creepy place.

I totally see that. I do feel like the motivation was a little more "let's get this bitch" than "oh my goodness, think of the poor woman she's stealing images from," but maybe that's just splitting hairs. (And for the record I am not above a good "gotcha" myself by any means. I just found the self-righteousness a little eye-roll-worthy).

She is a decade younger than she claimed to be, has a self admitted Catfishing addiction and claims to be 100% remorseful. She is not a wedding planner, she isn't married and has no children. The girl in the pictures "Jen" claimed to be is clued in to everything and has fixed her leak. Unfortunately we couldn't find Max's origins ("Jen's" supposed 4th child she posted pics of) but am working on it.</div><div><br></div><div>I spent a couple hours texting Ana and she spilled everything, or what she wants us to think is everything. She says she has done this on other social media sites and joined TheBump due to low self esteem, her inability to make friends IRL and she always wanted children. Maybe I read it with the wrong intent/tone of voice in my head, and I apologize if I did and if I acted a bit too swiftly or harshly.  

That said, I wouldn't see anything wrong with a newbie or someone from TB coming over and if he or she was riled by something posted a "really/wtf?" sort of thing.  Because one would expect for others of the community to explain what they meant (ie. maybe the newbie is missing some inside joke or something).  No, I was not trying to stir the pot.  Heck, if I wanted to do that, I would have a hell of a lot more to post on here.
