super pissed and upset

So house! Yay! Our wood floors are scheduled to go in this coming week! Except i got an email at 5 pm today from someone saying that our beautiful brown-grey tinged driftwood looking hard wood floors have been DISCONTINUED, and I need to contact so and so at this number ASAP if I haven't been contacted yet.

So my question is, why the hell was it rush rush rush back in July to pick out my design options if they were never ordered at that time? It was a week and a half before my wedding and I HAD to pick out everything, it couldn't wait.

The floors we chose have a similar color, 3 levels above ours. I've signed my final purchase agreement, so my house price can't change.

Can I ask no, TELL them to find the closest piece of hardwood that matches our previous hardwood selection since we designed our kitchen family room around this particular color, even if "the price is much higher"? They need to eat this cost, in my opinion. They fucked up not ordering my hardwood back when I chose it.

Am I out of order? I'm SO pissed and worried that I'll have to pick a regular dark brown which will be too matchy to our cabinets and the wrong color for our granite. I'm upset.

  • I always try to be really nice and understanding. However, I've been I bad mood for the past few days, I started my period today, I'm overly tired, and I'm driving out of town. I'm ANGRY and I don't want to be nice about it. This poor lady, I'm not going to be nice and understanding. I'm gonna throw all the hatred and upsetness and point out their errors and make them eat the loss.

  • Absolutely ask.  They messed up they need to figure out how to fix the problem.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Definitely push as much as you can while keeping your cool. Polite but firm.

  • Sorry. I've seen the grey hardwoods used a lot on flipping shows recently and they are really beautiful. Hope you're able to get ones you love!

  • I feel like they get so set on their "suppliers".... Surely they can roll on over to Home Depot or Lumber Liquidators and pick up something in the correct color??

They rushed you to make a decision, so why didn't they rush to order the product you decided on??? I agree with the others. Be polite, but firm. It's their mistake. They have to make it right.

That's the million dollar question! We are shocked and dumbfounded. I hope we can get a similar grey tinged floor, because seriously, our kitchen was designed to this color, and I paid for this. Give me what I paid for, not a color that looks gross with the design and that I'm unhappy with.

  • Check through your contracts or anything you signed when you purchased the flooring. There may be some wording in there that can give you some leverage. I would definitely push back!
  • ...do you know for sure that this somebody was with your contracting company? I mean, if floors are going in this week, I'd say it's HIGHLY unprofessional for them to not have the flooring. Have you tried contacting the contractor to see what's up yet?

We are only given information for the design center contacts and our project manager, not particular contractors. We'll see what Monday brings, but I definitely plan on being firm but polite regarding them not having placed the order in a "timely manner".

The contract for our design selection doesn't say anything regarding ordering time and what to do in this situation. It was a list of our selections and pictures, and our signatures.

True that...I believe floors are supposed to be on site several days beforehand to acclimate to the humidity in the house so they don't buckle later.

  • Well, more what I mean is that is this a verified person with whoever is designing? It wouldn't necessarily be unheard of for a person to attempt to say that your floors were discontinued, please call 555-1234 if they haven't called you, and the people at the number try to get you to purchase something, and then turns out it's not actually the people you've been working with. I mean, I know it's a little out there but I've heard weirder things. You know?

This was my first thought!  If your floors are going in this week why aren't they in hand?

Sending good vibes your way.  Hopefully its just some sort of goofy paperwork error.

AH! The email was from the woman who actually "sold" me the home; she worked in the model house, deals with my contracts, and runs interference with the builder. So I trust the information from her. She's always looked out for me.

But some birthday present, huh? Hoping we get good options to rechoose from!

Yeah, that was my thing - if I got an email saying that my flooring was discontinued, I'd want to be sure it was coming from an actual person, actually involved with the house.

I would definitely push to get something comparably similar, since your whole living area sounds like it was designed around this specific flooring.

UGH Some birthday present indeed. Not my favorite, for sure.

  • Y'all, we just stopped by the new house before going to bed. Countertops are in! Except they have the standard base kitchen sink in. I paid $$$ for one of those beautiful apron sinks. So they'll have to recut the granite to accommodate the new size sink. -.-

    Losing faith in these builders...

They're fucking up left and right that you should get compensation for these mistakes. It's completely unacceptable.

  • We're thinking of asking for custom tile back splash. Mwahahaha. DH was gonna do it himself, but, hey if we can get it done for free because of their eff ups..

Tonight has been rough on the birthday celebration scale. So I'm mopey. Seeing this incorrect sink did not help!
