what's for dinner?

Re: what's for dinner?

  • We're still working our way through leftovers that H's grandma sent home with us this past weekend....I'll probably heat up some chicken paprikash and open up a bottle of wine we just got from our shipment this month.
My dad is OBSESSED with chicken paprikash. My mom has to make it once a week so he'll shut up about it.

SO YUMMY.  It was one of the first meals H made for me when we started dating.  I thought it was good, and then when I met his grandmother and tasted HERS--well, I knew right then that I needed to get into this family.

  • Grilled bacon wrapped asparagus and pork chops with orecchiette because I was starving. Good thing my dress now has a corset back or I'd be having issues next Friday.

http://www.bhg.com/recipe/orecchiette-with-ricotta-and-chard-pan-sauce/ is close enough because I'm too lazy to figure out how much my big handfuls of things really are.

Homemade Mac and Cheese and side salad with romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes and orange peppers with my homemade dressing. I also had a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. The mac and cheese is rich but delicious! Here is the recipe,

  • I made fiance meatballs last night, so today he had them on an Italian sandwich with fresh mozzarella, romano, various veg, and lots of basil. I sautéed some Brussels sprouts and kale leaves with garlic and lemon and some truffle oil too because we fancy. But I had to eat the same damn salad I've had all week because I'm on strict rations until my boobs shrink a bit. I blew up like a balloon this month from too many food-related events and now none of my bras fit.

  • I lied.  I'm making marinara; baked macaroni and cheese was too much work.  Plus I was starving after I finished my  job application.  Now I'm drinking to fill my stomach while I wait for dinner to be done...

  • That sounds incredible lolo!

We had Chinese last night because I hurt my back and couldn't face cooking, but tonight we're going to have apricot-soy baked pork spare rib chops, baked potatoes and veggies.

  • We were away last weekend on an eno/gastronomic tour, so this week we were trying to eat lighter. By lighter, I mean we had a salad and I ate about a pound of Camembert cheese, which was way too much and I ended up feeling nauseous all night. But it was so delicious.

I made the mistake of making it for FI two weeks ago now he wants to have it at least once a month. I have to say it's absolutely yummy!!!

That gastro tour sounds like my perfect weekend!!!!!

Last night we had the last games of our kickball season (Yup, grownups playing kickball....its' awesome) so we went out for burgers afterward with the team.  Patty melts and IPAs make even the toughest of kickball losses better.

I'm making pork chops and green beans tonight.

Can you share a recipe please.  I don't even think I know what it is, but with reviews like that I should try it!

I have been doing my meal planning nonsense and it's going well (i'll just pat myself on the back for a moment)  Last night's dinner was a real winner. . . . turkey and cranberry meatloaf.  It was like a lovely little loaf of thanksgiving, and not difficult to prepare.  DH loved it, but would have liked a little gravy on it (next time!)  I brought the leftovers for lunch today.  For tonight, beef stew is in the crockpot.  I might do a chicken noodle in the crockpot tomorrow, DH loves good chicken noodle soup.

Here's the turkey and cranberry meatloaf recipe.  We had it with baked sweet potatoes with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon.

  • I have never had chicken paprikash. >.>

My friend raves about it though, and has her mom make it for her birthday every year. I should really make it.

    @loro929

This is my recipe, however I eat it with crusty bread that I make the night before, instead of the dumplings. And I use chicken breasts instead of the bone in.

  • I'm going to a potluck at a good friend's place - probably the last time I'll be there before she moves to her brand-new, beautiful, custom-built home (that I am teeth-grindingly jealous of...it's gorgeous.) So I don't know what I'll eat (but again...I'm on a super-strict calorie-counting regimen at the moment so it will probably be boring and mainly raw vegetables.) I'm just roasting three chickens to bring.

Fiance's got a work cocktail thing, so I'll leave him the fourth chicken for when he gets home and he can just eat that.

I did cave today and eat a couple bites of the Diwali sweets our IT department brought in today though. I love Indian desserts.

I happen to have chicken defrosting as we speak. And a bag of egg noodles.

    Will report back at 8.
  • Oh sweet baby Jesus. The chicken was soooooooooooooooo good. Between the two of us, we finished it. We had homemade sauerkraut with it.

There may or may not have been bowl licking by either so called adult.

I'm tempted to see if I can convert that to my pressure cooker, but it really wasn't that bad for time. Saturday is our usually kitchen clean up day, so just kept an eye on it while I cleaned.
  • Tonight was an epic dinner. I seared some thin sliced pork chops with honey, deglazed the pan with white wine and added apples, and reduced until it was a lovely glaze for the chops. Then I made some stir-fried greenbeans and roasted potatoes. DH loves me extra much tonight.

  • Damn I love reading about everyone's food! I have the apartment to myself for a week so I haven't been grocery shopping much...may have ordered a pizza and ate half of it...

But earlier this week I made my favourite comfort food dish: A mixture of gnocchi, butternut squash, kale, vegetable stock, parmesan cheese, garlic, sage and red pepper flakes. It's heavenly!
