Well, by one close friend. In a Facebook post. But it still made me proud
There are a lot of posts (and I've partaken in a few of them) about how crappy your guests feel when you don't do thank you notes or don't do them promptly, or just do a postcard with no personalized message...so I thought I'd share what happens when you DO take the time to write personalized notes and get them out as quickly as you can.
First, if you get them out ASAP for your wedding and do them well, you get crowned Queen of the TY note and your college friends all start a thread about what a prompt and lovely note-writer you are. (Yes, it's bad form to post about your wedding on fb...but I didn't post anything; my guests did.)
Also, when your shower is held two weeks before your wedding and you get those notes out within a few days (btw, thanks to everyone on the R&G thread for suggestions that helped me find out whom the cardless gifts came from), people come up to you at your wedding and tell you how much they appreciate it. You hear things like "I know you had a lot of notes to write and you took the time to write us a really long one (from my aunt and her five school-age daughters) so we really appreciated it!" and "That was the fastest TY note from a shower I've EVER received!" and "Thank you for your lovely note!" and "I got your note; it was so sweet!"
So yeah. Especially nowadays when so many people either don't do them or don't do personalized ones, people notice and are pleasantly surprised! Hearing those compliments from my shower TYs really motivated me to aspire to do the same for the wedding ones!
Also, I'm married now. Woot woot! DH was one the phone adding "his wife's name" to a hotel reservation and for a minute I was like, "His wife?? Who's that??...Oh yeah that's me!"
