I've been crowned Queen of The TY Note!

Well, by one close friend. In a Facebook post. But it still made me proud :)

There are a lot of posts (and I've partaken in a few of them) about how crappy your guests feel when you don't do thank you notes or don't do them promptly, or just do a postcard with no personalized message...so I thought I'd share what happens when you DO take the time to write personalized notes and get them out as quickly as you can.

First, if you get them out ASAP for your wedding and do them well, you get crowned Queen of the TY note and your college friends all start a thread about what a prompt and lovely note-writer you are. (Yes, it's bad form to post about your wedding on fb...but I didn't post anything; my guests did.)

Also, when your shower is held two weeks before your wedding and you get those notes out within a few days (btw, thanks to everyone on the R&G thread for suggestions that helped me find out whom the cardless gifts came from), people come up to you at your wedding and tell you how much they appreciate it. You hear things like "I know you had a lot of notes to write and you took the time to write us a really long one (from my aunt and her five school-age daughters) so we really appreciated it!" and "That was the fastest TY note from a shower I've EVER received!" and "Thank you for your lovely note!" and "I got your note; it was so sweet!"

So yeah. Especially nowadays when so many people either don't do them or don't do personalized ones, people notice and are pleasantly surprised! Hearing those compliments from my shower TYs really motivated me to aspire to do the same for the wedding ones!

Also, I'm married now. Woot woot! DH was one the phone adding "his wife's name" to a hotel reservation and for a minute I was like, "His wife?? Who's that??...Oh yeah that's me!"

  • Good for you! I can't imagine not talking TY notes seriously, I was truly thankful and gracious after our wedding.
  • That's so nice! My mom told me that her good friends who'd attended our wedding told her that my TY note was the nicest they'd ever received. I was quite flattered, yet also somewhat surprised as they're in their 50's... that's many years of TY notes or none at all.
People DO really appreciate personalized and heartfelt notes.

  • yay lol! My shower is this Sunday and I fully intend to get the thank you notes out promptly. My wedding is 3 weeks from tomorrow (squee!) and I'm getting those done right away as well. The longer you wait the more likely they'll never be done. I have my bridal party, reader and musician cards all ready to go as well as the cards for the ladies planning the shower.
  • People really do love to get thank you notes that aren't general and "one size fits all"  I feel like it means so much in today's day and time to get thank you notes like the ones you wrote because everything is so generalized these days, and made for quick fixes and all of that.  Good for you for getting the praise you deserve, and CONGRATS!

My compliments came mostly from my younger generation friends and family...if their experiences with thank-you notes are anything like mine have been over the last decade, I could see why they'd be genuinely impressed by a prompt and personalized thank-you. People in their 50s as well might be too if they've been to weddings of couples in their 20s and 30s and are used to blank photo postcards, mass fb messages, or just nothing at all : O

So true! Especially now when so much of our snail mail is bills and junk. And thank you!
  • Awesome!

One of my girlfriends texted me today thanking ME for her thank you note. She said it was the quickest thank you she ever received.
My parents also got theirs today too. I wrote a really special note in there for them, and they were both really touched. It gives me the feels.
  • That is awesome! Thanks for sharing
