Hairstyle for testifying in court?

I am a store lead manager, and as such if we take a case of theft to court, I am almost always called. So I'm up on Tuesday.

Before, I just pinned my hair up in a simple bun.

Last time was shortly after a concert where I singed my hair, so I cut it all off. Just made it lay nicely.

Now, my hair is just below my collarbone. Too short to bun or single braid, too long to do nothing. Any ideas?

Bobby pins could be you friend :) what about something like this: http://hairstylenames.com/easy-hairstyles-for-medium-length-hair-with-bobby-pins.html (Sorry for the link I am on my iPad and the HTML options aren't permitted for some reason... Nor are there any paragraphs).

  • How do you normally wear it?

  • I have hair just past my collarbone and when I go to court I always just wash it, dry it, and wear it normally. No particular style is required, just nest and clean.
  • Just wear it normal and clean. I'd recommend not trying out any non natural hair colors right before trial. Personally, I'd also brush it back from my face, ie, no big sections hanging over my eyes/half my face covered, so the jury could see me clearly.
  • How is that too long to leave down? Clean, dry, and brushed, you should be fine. Otherwise, side part into a low ponytail?

  • I really think you are overthinking this. Unless your regular style is somehow inappropriate, just wear it like you normally would.

  • Just wear it normal.  I usually wear my shoulder length hair down for court.  Just make sure it's neat and out of your face.
  • Normal and clean should be fine.  If you want to do something with it, you could go half-up with a barrette in the back.  But I really think you don't need to worry about this.

  • Normal is a ponytail and I wind up looking about 12. Plus, I have unnatural streaks, dark purple and teal right now.

Probably over thinking it, but that's what I get for having to testify Tuesday when I'm getting married Friday.
  • wow you've got a lot going on this week!!!

I would just stick with down - clean and neat. Or maybe a couple bobby pins to keep un-ruley areas out of your face.

    Good luck!

  • I tend to look young as well. Do you know how to do a French twist? Those tend to look older and work on a variety of lengths.

  • Just keep it simple.  Pull it back into a pony tail or pinned back with clips.  Nothing fancy, just simple and clean. But don't hide your face, that may subconsciously ring as evasive or untrustworthy.

As a trial attorney, I've had so many trainings on court presentation, it's ridiculous.  But the bottom line is as long as you don't look ridiculous or inappropriate (i.e. don't wear a ball gown and an fancy updo or jeans with holes in them and hair that hasn't been brushed in a month), a jury isn't going to worry too much about what a witness is wearing or what their hair looks like.

And be thankful, at least you don't have to worry about whether the color of your suit makes people trust you.  (Apparently, navy blue is the best for this.  Yes, there have been studies. *smh*)
