Broke into my bloody car this weekend. i was furious, but whatever. Everything that was taken is replaceable, so that's okay.

Well then another asshat tried to break into my house, while I was in it ALONE with my cat.  I heard this jiggling at the back door, go check and someone is trying to get in! My inner warrior wanted to beat him with a bat. My cowardess won and I ended up setting my alarm, grabbing my cat, calling 911 and hiding in my bathroom upstairs.

My friend's car was broken into in Brooklyn this weekend too!

They didn't take anything though, and the rash of them in the neighborhood leads me to believe the glass repair shop may be paying them :-P

I called FI after I got off the phone with 911 and he sent all three of his brothers over.  They took good care of me.

I don't know if he saw me, but hopefully he never comes back. I remember being like, 18 and babysitting my little brother and sister. Someone was lurking in my parent's backyard and I went outside with a cast iron frying pan to kick their ass. But when I['m by myself, nope, let's just hide in the bathroom. Ugh lol.

Holy crap is that scary. Glad nothing came of it. For precaution, can you add another lock, or do you have an alarm system?

I have an alarm system and a weird door system where you go through one door with a dead bolt and a door handle lock, and then come to another door with a dead bolt and a door handle lock.

That's so scary! I'm glad you are okay! I can't imagine being home when someone was trying to break in! You are very brave!

I'm glad you're okay. I probably would have done the same thing. Maybe consider getting some kind of self-defense tool? I have a taser, and it gives me a little extra piece of mind when I'm home alone.

Ahh so scary! Glad you're ok! Fellow Canadian here, last I checked I don't think it's legal to own a taser . I don't blame you for wanting one!

ETA: just realized that sentence made it sound like I'm regularly checking up on when I can get a taser, LOL.

I was going to reccomend pepper spray but...wikipedia tells me you can't have that in Canada (only the police can). 

I will say you were not a coward but actually very smart! My parents insisted I learn self defense and one of the first things we learn is that the best self defense is getting somewhere safe. Yeah, a frying pan is great and all, but I doubt it can stop a bullet. I was taught that if I could I should lock myself in a closet or the bathroom and call 911 if they hadn't gotten into the house. Otherwise I should get the fuck up out of the house (if I safely could) and go call 911 one from a neighbors' house. Better to let the trained police handle this shit then me.

I used to work for the largest manufacturer of tasers. They are unfortunately illegal in Canada. In Illinois, you can own one if you have a Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID).
