I had a really nice experience at Kleinfeld, for what it's worth. I didn't end up buying my dress there, but it was a much less "froofy" experience than Say Yes to the Dress had led me to believe. My consultant was chill and friendly and pulled a lot of cool dresses that I wouldn't have necessarily been drawn to off the rack.They know what they're doing in general, but if you are trying on dress after dress that you hate, don't be scared to speak up.

Thanks!  Yeah I'm definitely not afraid to speak up.  and I love that I had to sign something saying I did NOT want to be on that show when I made my appointment lol.
