Not so happy sunday

We went out last night for a friend's b-day.     Let's just say I'm a little hungover.

I should be working.  Well I do not have thing super important. It's just I do not get PTO, so I was going to work just to get hours.  My boss doesn't care either way.

Football is on a few hours.

What is everyone else doing?

  • Tracing linework and watching Christmas movies so I can try to feel festive enough to do this painting.

It is windy as hell here and I still have to go over and tend to the birds in a little while.

  • Grading papers here and doing laundry.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • It's pretty windy here too.

We saw a bear last night.  We were in Aspen walking to catch the bus home about 11is.  All the sudden a bear just stroll on by us.  Like 5 feet away.  Then he claimed a tree, but that tree wasn't tall enough, so he climbed down and continued to along the store fronts to another tree.   It was so crazy how he just appeared out of no where.

  • ugh. I went to a halloween party last night and vowed NOT to drink because I had to be at work at 7.

Then woke up with a horrific out-of-left-field cold. Kinda wish I had a hangover instead
  • I'm a little hung over. H and I just got done teaching Sunday school, and today was the required session about Internet safety. The materials we were given were so outdated and lame, so we had to wing it a bit. I'm ready to go back to sleep.
  • I REALLY wanted to have a few drinks last night...

I'm watching Law and Order right now while DH is grocery shopping and picking up a birthday present pour moi! Very exciting!!! Once he gets home, we'll watch the Cardinals game and the F1 race in Austin.

  • I love L&O.

I just read about Jessa Duggar's wedding.    They choose to have their first kiss in in private.    I'm oddly proud of them.

That said,  in true Jim Bob and Michelle AW ways they kissed instead.

  • Got back from the Cayman last night, at work today kinda tired and kinda bored.

Need to diet/exercise. At the heaviest I've ever been.

  • We're taking down the metal gazebo today.  It's been on our to do list for the past 4 weeks or so.  Winter tires are on the cars, so it's the last thing to do before winter.  Then too long at the gym for practice which is starting to make me very ragey lately.  :(

  • Gutting out the pumpkin I meant to get to on Halloween so I can roast the seeds. I love them with taco seasoning--that's kinda weird, eh?

Reading books for my dissertation intro.

Going to church with DH to hear a choir we love, spending time with him before I jet off to a conference in Pittsburgh from Wednesday through Sunday.
  • Getting over a mild hungover from Saturday and just finished hosting my FILs for Sunday roast. Damn, hosting is so tiring...

  • I was super hungover yesterday. And I'm still recovering today. I got up and made us breakfast but I'm not motivated to do much else.
  • Seems like I'm in good company on the hungover front.

    Blah. I have a headache.

Trying to get Halloween stuff packed up and the little Thanksgiving-y stuff I have put in its place. I think this is the extent of it (oh well that the sign is technically a Christmas decoration; I think it fits).

I'm still in PJs avoiding taking a shower cuz it's gonna be a nightmare to get this red spray dye out of my hair. Nobody knew what my costume was last night; some people called me "space girl" and others thought I was a Jetson even though none of the Jetsons had space designs on their clothes, they just lived in space. Derp. I ran out of time to make the star earrings and rocket ship applique for my dress that would have made it more Ms Frizzle-y. Oh well. At least the food and drinks were well-received.

Can you guys please beat Dallas today?

I'm working today, doing laundry, tidying up, exercising, meal planning. Missing my football game d/t work. Boo!

  • I just found out our Thanksgiving hours. 6 to 1. Fuck you Macy's.

  • Yeah, there is a lot of backlash about Macy's opening up on T-day. Didn't they do that last year too?

Yep. Most retailers opened on thanksgiving last year. Our mall was open from 8 pm through black Friday 10 pm. My store is an anchor store, so we get to dictate our own hours and we were open 8 to 12.

Honestly, my store has been open on thanksgiving for the last 5 years. The hours vary, but we make "too much" money on thanksgiving to stay closed, especially with all the other stores staying open.

I volunteer to work thanksgiving because all my other coworkers have kids, but it still sucks. I'd like to stay in and get drunk with the rest of H's family.

I do get to justify drinking lots of soda though. Keeps me from punching customers. Especially the ones who get pissy when I say "happy holidays".

    Ditto.
  • I hate that stores are open on Thanksgiving. Any bets regarding when they'll be open on Christmas too?

I went to church with DH and the kids and then while DS napped, I scrubbed the shower. It was gross with mold but I'm proud of my elbow grease! I have a Lush bath bomb that will be put to use this week and now I won't feel like I'm stewing in ugliness! In the meantime potty trained DD peed on the couch so I got to add the slipcovers to laundry day and wonder WTF.

Now DH, DS and I are on the couch watching the race while DD naps.
  • I think the entire Thanksgiving weekend shopping event thing is bullshit, really. I mean, yes, it sucks that stores are opening on Thanksgiving, but it really isn't any different to me than a store opening at 3 AM on Friday - the openers still have to get up at 1 to be there at 2 to be ready for the store to open at 3, which means if they don't want their ass to be dragging the ground they have to go to bed at, like, 5 PM.

I purposefully avoid any Black Weekend shopping if at all possible, and have so far succeeded in never buying anything other than food/necessities until Cyber Monday at the earliest.

    It's looking good ladies!!

For us, it's home team versus home team. No matter how strong of roots we put down in Ft. Worth, we will NEVER be Cowboys fans.

Personally, I'm betting within 10 years most major retailers will be open on Christmas.

  • I went to yoga this morning. Now I'm grading the take home portion of the midterm. I want to bash my head against the wall. These are 4th year, honours students that had a week to work on the take home portion, were given hints and encouraged to work in groups and I've still failed a bunch of them.

Considering how many people do not celebrate Christmas I think it's only a matter of time.

I'm pretty neutral to stores being open on Thanksgiving. I do not shop on T-day.  I do not even shop on the weekend for that matter.

However, I just can't get up in a uproar on how people want to spend their time on Thanksgiving.  People watch football, go to the movies, travel, go out to dinner, visit national parks, go skiing, go on sailboat trips and countless other activities that require people to work.

Not saying it doesn't suck for retail workers, but once it was okay for restaurants and movie theaters to open it was only a matter of time it would move to retail stores.
