Shorts under skirt? Help!

I'm looking for some guidance on what to wear under my gown. I have an A-line Adrianna Papell gown with no train. The wedding is in the middle of August and since I was in the 8th grade I've always worn spandex athletic shorts under dresses. I've heard that Spanx are hot and not exactly sexy. What are my options other than letting my thighs stick together or overheating??? I want to still look sexy out of my dress that night, but the idea of chafing isn't sexy either...

Re: Shorts under skirt? Help!

  • I wore mid-thigh Spanx under my lace mermaid dress. Wasn't hot at all. I peeled them off before H saw them.

  • I wore my mid thigh "Assets" (Target version of Spanx, created by the same woman) and wasn't hot at all. In fact, I wear them to work pretty much every day b/c I don't need my fat ass jiggling around. You can easily get them off before your husband sees them, as LoLo did.

  • I wear spanx every time I wear a skirt or dress.  I don't find them hot at all.  In fact I find that they help keep thigh sweat to a minimum and prevent the dreaded chaffing.

Honestly, when it comes to under garments for under your wedding dress you need to go for comfort and function rather then the sex factor.  When you get back to your hotel room or home simply hit up the bathroom for a few minutes (You will most likely need/want to pee, right?) to switch out from the spanx to a set of sexy underwear.

  • If you want to wear shorts, there's no reason you shouldn't. No one is going to see them. Just take them off when you get to your room that night if you don't want your fiance seeing them (although if you wear them under dresses normally, he's probably used to that and isn't going to find it weird anyway, right?)

I'm probably wearing a pair of my lululemon running shorts under my dress because I want to go ziplining in it (we'll be in Vegas.)

  • Either wear what you're comfortable with, or give no shorts a try. I used to always wear shorts under dresses since I was a kid. I finally decided to try no shorts and you know what? It's pretty comfortable! However, the important thing is that you're comfortable. If you feel like your thighs will sweat or chafe, then just wear some shorts or under garments like spanx (you can size up if you want to be a little more comfortable). I often wear them if it's hot out and I'm worried about thigh sweat and chafing. If you wear some cute spandex shorts and your fiance is used to you wearing them under dresses, then I wouldn't even worry about taking them off. If you wear something a little less sexy like spanx (they usually have a higher waist, etc), then slip them off in the bathroom as previous posters suggested. You don't have to stop being yourself on your wedding night. Your fiance knows who he's marrying and he loves you just how you are: spandex and everything.

If you aren't looking for structure, you can always skip the shorts and use Body Glide (it's a deodorant-like stick that athletes use). That will keep the thighs from rubbing together even in extreme heat (I got married in Mexico in May, it was hot, and it worked). But, if you are comfortable in shorts, then do it! You want to be comfortable on your day.
