Is this a dumb shower favor?

I'm throwing my SIL a baby shower on Saturday and I want to get favors for all the women attending.

I was going to do nail bags- nail polish, clippers, emry boards, toe separators and other things I can't think of the names of.

Do you think that's dumb? Too childish for a grown woman?

Another alternative would be to get some old fashioned canning jars and fill them with chocolates.

Re: Is this a dumb shower favor?

  • I love this idea! I am always losing my emry board, so I would be crazy happy!

  • I'm a nail polish blogger so I personally love the idea.  However keep in mind that many women don't do their own nails.  Also, if you do this, I would throw in a nail polish!  There are lots of places you can get custom colors made with the moms name or something cute like that.  I actually just had polishes made for my bridesmaids!

  • I don't think you could go wrong with either, but I'd prefer the chocolate.

Unless the shower has some sort of "pampering" theme, then they're perfect.

  • I would really like the nail bags! Just my opinion.

  • Sounds cute! I agree with PP though, that not all women do their own nails. I don't wear nail polish because I have a bad reaction to it, but I would use the file and stuff like that.

  • I think it sounds cute. Is it a theme shower? Does it all work together?

I've also never sneered at chocolate...

  • I think both ideas are great. I would use the nail stuff and I would definitely eat the chocolate. You're good either way.
  • I'm a beauty junkie so I would love to receive the nail things! Also a chocolate fiend so...there's that. Both crowd pleasers in my opinion.

  • Love both ideas!

  • In the grand scheme of what passes for "favors" these days, I'd happily accept stuff to do my nails (especially polish) even if I didn't even do my own nails. I could easily share that with a friend who enjoys the stuff, for example.  I wouldn't use/re-gift/pass along something like heart-shaped teaspoons (a wedding shower favor), a giant faux-diamond ring keychain (an engagement party favor), or a cutesy, juvenile luggage tag (a baby shower favor)...

Pampering stuff generally goes over quite well.

  • It's cute, but I don't do my own nails so I'd probably re-gift it since I have a lot if friends who are crazy about doing their nails!
  • That idea is OK, but not everyone paints/does their nails.  I love the chocolate idea, though.

  • Thanks for all the feedback!
No it isn't a themed shower. Owls were on the invites. Going to make paper Pom poms in pink, grey and green. That's it for "theme".
Going to be doing appliqué on bibs and onesies. Lots of food.
I don't think I'd mind it if someone regifted it.
I could even put some chocolates in the bags...

Best of both worlds! What color nail polish are you thinking about getting? I would do something that is widely liked. Is it a girl? (Assuming because of the pink). You could go with a light pink polish.

  • My sisters did bags like that plus a mini bottle of wine for my shower game prizes. Everyone loved them. (Favors were live rosemary planted in antique teacups since it was at a tea house, plus a homemade soy jar candle).

  • I love the nail idea. I love doing my own nails. I would probably give away the chocolate.
  • That's one of the very few non edible favor I would be happy to get! Get lots of different colors for the ladies to trade if they don't like theirs!

  • The nail bag sounds good to me. Sometimes I quickly paint my own nails when I'm lazy or too busy.

  • I can help point you in the direction of some custom nail polish if you'd like.  You can do the moms favorite colors, something baby themed, choose the name, etc.

  • I don't "do" my nails (except to cut them when they get annoying) but I would still enjoy a little gift bag for the polish alone, since I bring my own to the salon sometimes.

I think you could find exceptions to every favor idea (there's always someone who doesn't like/need whatever you choose) so I wouldn't get too caught up on who might not use it. Someone might not like chocolate either, but you never hear people say, "Nah, don't do the M&Ms."

  • Sorry for the post and run.  Ever since switching jobs I've been in meetings all day long every day and don't get a chance to Knot unless I'm on lunch or when I get home.

@sarawifenow - I was thinking of doing multiple colors in the pink spectrum.

Because it's Wednesday and Saturday is the party I won't be able to do anything custom @lacqueredlover but I would love it if you could give me suggestions.  I'm sure it would come in handy down the line.
