Re: "What What...

  • What the HELL?! How on earth is that a relevant course offering to getting a fucking DEGREE?

I feel like we're gonna start seeing a lot more "butt baby" posts.

Ha! Hahaha! Wait about 9 months and we shall see ;)

Re: degree merit, from what I understand, it's part of a seminar hosted at Harvard so not actually part of curriculum. But I do wonder what Harvard resources go toward facilitating that seminar.

ETA - and how much therapy would be needed if you walked in and saw Dr. Bob, your accounting professor, teaching it!

  • I'd go.  Maybe TMI, but I'd like to try pegging and I don't know a whole lot about anal stuff.

Ok, well still. There have got to be some resources going toward that, and I don't see the point. I didn't count on my university to teach sex ed; it's not their job.

And you know none of those nerds at Harvard are having any sex anyway. ;)

  • I am glad that I recognized the "what what" immediately. That is one of my all time favorite YouTube videos and the South Park episode making fun of it.

  • I took a "women's psychology" class in college for some of my gen ed credits. There was a whole week on "female masturbation" and included some anatomy lessons which was kind of interesting but didn't teach me anything I didn't already know. (Sadly I'm sure there were women in the class who had no idea about some of this stuff)

The worst part, though, was I had befriended this girl who was apparently EXTREMELY conservative and she was sitting next to me during that week. She kept saying quietly to herself "Oh my god! OH MY GOD! How disgusting! This is so inappropriate!" Actually made the whole thing quite awkward for me.

I took two different Human Sexuality courses towards my degree. One was a basic overview, the other more focused on the psychology behind human sexuality. I know we covered anal sex in both. It wasn't really sex ed though.

I only skimmed this article, I'm tired and not focusing.
  • If sex education were a viable career path, I would have become a sex educator, so ... I think this is pretty awesome.

There are a lot of important safety measures people need to consider if they're engaging in anal, and not everyone knows them before trying it. So while clearly the title is very silly and probably meant to be shocking, I think it's a valuable workshop to have.

  • Yeah, count me as one of the people who thinks this kind of thing is great. If it were a struggling community college that was diverting its meager resources to a buttsex clinic, I'd be a little more leery, but Harvard has the bank, man.

Also, my Women's Bodies in Health and Disease class was one of the best courses I ever took--it did not, unfortunately, get into the ins and outs (get it?) of anal sex, but it was fascinating to learn just how much we aren't learning in high school biology (case in point, the clitoris? Not just a little "spot." That sucker stretches back further than you probably learned!).

This made me LOL.  When H called his dad to tell him I was pregnant the convo went something like this:

FIL: "Congrats C.  Good job.  How'd that happen?"
H: "I thought I was in her butt"
    Me: Face palm
    FIL: Hysterically laughing

FIL was in such shock he was stuttering and all kinds of confused.  I was crying from laughing so hard.

This topic kind if makes me upset.

I don't really find humor in proper sex education. Having to laugh about it and poke fun at adults EDUCATING themselves is really part of the problem, and a big reason why so many people are painfully ignorant on the subject.

I don't feel that way at all. I saw a lot of people poking fun that such a seminar even exists.
  • I'm on Team It's Awesome. I am never going to complain about sex-positive, pro-safety information being spread to the masses. Now add a healthy dose of consent education and I'd send them some free lube to hand out.

  • As a librarian, one of my dream jobs is to work in the library at the Kinsey Institute and if I'd known early on that Human Sexuality as a degree was a thing I would have minored in it 100%. I did take whatever similar classes I could as electives.

College is actually the perfect opportunity for these sorts of educational experiences since this is when young adults are having sex and experimenting, etc. etc. etc. If they need to give it a flashy title to get the students interested, so be it.

Yep, some made butt sex jokes, some disagreed with the merit &/or location of the course, some referenced a South Park episode of the same name (??), and some were pro sex education such as this, particularly when it's aimed at college-aged folks. Isn't that the beauty of differing opinions and discussion?

The people behind the course are obviously getting what they want out of it - it's being shared on a multitude of social media outlets & people are talking about.

I agree. I wasn't making fun of the course itself, just the fact that they named it after a super ridiculous/ hilarious video. If they wanted people/ students to take it more seriously they probably should have given it a different name since many of us in this age range know the reference.

Oh he said it! But was totally kidding. He's asked for the butt and I have refused. H and my FIL found it hilarious though
