Wedding Woes

Thursday!

I don't really have anything, but I'm happy I've made our grocery money this week.  We're starting final prep for a big event next week.  Last year was the first year and we had 80 people.  This year we're up to 140 and people are still sending RSVPs!

Re: Thursday!

  • Yay for Thursday!  I have big plans for laundry and cleaning.

I really messed up supper last night.  Wasted a lot of chicken.  The kids were trying to be polite and say that it tasted good.  We had to throw it away and get fast food.
  • Boooo what happened?

I made up a casserole that others will probably think is disgusting, but my family loves it and its cheap- 1 lb hashbrowns, a dozen scrambled eggs, a couple cups ham/sausage/bacon, and the cheese sauce I use for mac and cheese.  We eat half of it in one sitting.  I can easily see this becoming a regular.

  • It was chicken tacos in the crockpot.  I have made it a hundred times.  Somehow I added WAY too much seasoning.  Way, way too much.

DH and I each took one bite and couldn't do any more.  It was like eating a salt taco.

I made the crockpot potato soup that has been going around pinterest and fb on Monday and it was pretty good.  Son and DD1 absolutely loved it.  I'll make it again for sure.  It's so easy.
  • UGH!  That sucks, Taw.  I hate messing up dinner.  I remember when plastic from the packaging from some pork ended up in the crockpot and I had to throw away about 3 lbs of pork.  I was so mad.

Speaking of crockpots, ours busted on Sunday.  It was coming because it was already cracked and then I rapped it against the sink (our sink is porcelain...I hate it.  I'm terrified I'm going to break glass in it all the time.) and the handle just broke right off.  We bought a new one Tuesday.  (Happy anniversary to me! ;))   We use the crockpot at least once a week, usually more, in the fall/winter months.

I have to bid on next year's PTO today (three weeks guaranteed...we can request other dates any time).  DH is talking about going back to San Diego next year.  :D  I'm thinking we should do a fall break trip. I'm definitely looking forward to spreading out my time off next year.  I feel like I took a lot of time off early this year and have been limping along since the summer.  We're definitely taking a vacation or two since we haven't been able to the last couple years.

We watched the CMA's last night.  The pop collaborations were werid.  The hair was big.

  • I flipped on the CMAs twice. First time was Steven Tyler second time was Arianna Grande.  I had to check the guide.
  • Oh and we met the neighbors across the street.  They brought us cookies (snickerdoodles with frosting on them...O.M.G. so good).  They have two boys, 9 and 14.  The kiddo and the 14 year old seemed to be sizing each other up.  They have a love of air soft guns in common, so I think they'll be OK.  :)

Also, the 14 year old has an earring.  The kiddo is *begging* for one.  So I got to hear all night about how that kid has an earring and it looks OK.  ::le sigh::

Steven Tyler is/was ridic.  And Ariana Grande was so out of place.
  • I remember when plastic from the packaging from some pork ended up in the crockpot and I had to throw away about 3 lbs of pork.  I was so mad.
I remember when I was making French onion beef and forgot to turn the damn thing on before I left.  That was an entire roast wasted.  :(

I can't believe none of you are listening to the Serial podcast.  Episode 7 was just released and I listened to it on the drive in this morning.
  • I'm just glad tomorrow is the end of this week.  The time change has really messed with me.  I hate getting used to leaving work and it's dark outside.  It's rough, every year.

I can't get into podcasts.  I've never really liked being read to or cared for talk radio.  There's a ton of atheist podcasts that are really great and discuss very interesting things.  I just don't care.  I think it's b/c I'm a very visual learner and that's what I focus on.  I can watch a debate/lecture for hours.
  • Mornin'

Today I go to the doctor to see abbout my toe. Pray they don't try to jack with it.

DH brought the kids this morning so I have a few extra minutes of silence in the house. Sephora is kicking off their sale and they had an event at the stores last night, so I went to that. It was underwhelming. Not really well organized, no samples, and inventory wasn't great. Oh well, I don't really "need" anything at the moment so it was for the best.

I need some new crockpot recipes. The family loves this one: 1 lb of chicken breasts, 1 can of cream of mushroom, one block of cream cheese, one packet of Italian dressing, 1 can of chicken broth. Mix up everything but the chicken, place chicken in crockpot and dump sauce over. Cook then shred chicken. I make rice or noodles with it and it is about the only thing DS will eat seconds of.

Tonight I'm grocery shopping. I'm looking forward to it because this is like the first week I've been able to cook in my kitchen every night and eat home cooked dinners.
  • I'm the huge minority in that I use a crockpot never.  That was expanded when H started having weird hours and I eat by myself about 80% of the time.  Then again---I could do the weird stuff and eat it all myself.  DUH!  But my crockpot has a crack in it through almost the whole crock.  Not sure if I can buy a new crock, I'm just thinking via typing now.

Thursday?  I wish it were Friday.  This week is just sucking the life out of me.  I have things to do, and yet...the recurring theme---I'm not doing them.  SURPRISE.

Last night H and I had pizza and watched Snowpiercer.  I recommend.  It's strange and out there, but I still really enjoyed it.

Do you think it's infected Pmeg?  :(  I hope they don't mess with it more than they have to.

I haven't gotten into podcasts, but I'm sure I'd love them. BIL is always talking about the podcasts he listens to.

I listen to local radio in the morming and stand up comedy in the afternoon.  I can listen to NPR for hours (my kids hate long car rides with me because I force NPR on them).  I loved being read to in school.  So yeah, I definitely learn by listening. :) Watching a lecture would put me to sleep and I'd only be into a debate if I am interested in the topic being debated.
  • *stands with Conn* I PPH lurve NPR.  *fangirl*
  • I am so flipping tired.  DS slept better two nights ago, but last night was crap again.  And when he woke up, he was jamming his fingers into the other side of his mouth.  Here we go again...

On the bright side, DH has started dressing DS for school while I walk DD to the bus stop in the morning.  That's a big help.

S/O DD and DS, DD lectured him for like five minutes straight last night.  We were in the playroom, and because DS worships the ground she walks on and has toddler curiosity about everything, he had to check out what she was doing with her Legos.  And she proceeded to lecture him, beginning with "Now, I'm sure this seems very cool and interesting to you because you're just little, but there are a lot of reasons why you can't play with my Legos."  And she listed them.  All of them.  Starting with "These pieces are too small for you to play with, and if you stick them in your mouth, you might choke," all the way through "I've spent a lot of time on this tower and I really don't want you breaking it, because I don't have time to rebuild it before bedtime."  He just sat there, hanging on her every word, trying to figure out what she was walking about but clearly enjoying the attention.
  • @Heffalump.  I just went to "this american life" and then lo and behold SERIAL.  *oprah moment*
  • @ftrMrs0  I looooooooooooooooooooved Snowpiercer.  Loved and OMG @ Tilda Swinton!!!!  We had actually bought it off of Amazon Instant b/c I had read about the movie and it wasn't coming anywhere close here.

I want to read the graphic novels it's based after seeing it.
  • H heard about it and was all "MUST SEE" which was awesome because I read the cast and thought "WHY hadn't I heard of this!?".

Tilda Swinton---I wouldn't have realized it was her unless I reallyREALLY looked.
  • I love your DD, Heffa.  Just wait until DS starts talking back and lecturing her.  LOL

It seemed to really stay under the radar.  The conspiracy theorist in me tends to think it's b/c it was so political on so many levels (climate change, inequality, inequity, classes), it just got buried.  But really, I didn't see much advertising on it and with that cast, you would think it would've had some good publicity.

ETA:  Apparently the train in the graphic novels is hundreds of cars long and each novel is one car.

Enjoy!  Then come back and tell me if you think Adnan did it or not.
  • I know, just finished the first episode.  I wonder how many more I can listen to today?  MUST LISTEN
