Nervous about alterations.

I tried my gown on yesterday, and I definitely need them to build up the bustline a bit.  My gown has a lot of pleating details so they will make it match as much as possible.

It seems they can use the material from the hem, but I have a swatch to find backup fabric just incase. I'm incredibly nervous about this, but they are very confident it will work well.

I'm also REALLY tall so the length of the armholes bother me, and they need to adjust those as well -- yet the back of the straps are too big.  Its so strange.

Just trying to keep faith that they will take good care of me!

  • Tailors are experts at what they do. If they couldn't do it, they'd presumably tell you. Plus, those are all pretty standard requests, so I'm sure they have experience. It'll look great!

  • Make sure you're using a seamstress who has experience working with wedding gowns.

A good seamstress can fix all of those issues, so don't worry too much.

  • I just went for my final fitting after all my alterations! I was so very nervous! I just had this knot in my stomach that I was going to hate the work done, and I was going to have to figure out a back up plan or worst case a whole new dress within 3 weeks. Yes, that's how stressed I was over this (I assume it's normal). I tried on my dress and it was better than I imagined or remembered. It fit like a glove, a beautiful perfect image that I wanted to project. The custom options I had asked to be added along the bust for a slight bit more modesty were better than I ever imagined! I am so pleased with my tailor. He made my crazy hair brained imaginations come to life and look sophisticated and elegant!

I'm sharing this story because I really felt your pain and stress... Until I put on that gown. So try not to let your worries get the best of you. I know, easier said than done... Trust the professionals, and have faith that no matter what there will be a solution!

    best of luck waiting!
  • Tailoring wedding dresses is really an art. Seriously. These people know their stuff, and most of them are extremely good at it. In fact, every seamstress I've ever met (I'm very short so I go to A LOT of seamstresses to have stuff hemmed at whatnot) have been working on their craft for years and years. They've seen it all and they've done it all. Don't be nervous! If she said she can fix it, then she can fix it.

  • You are too nervous.I can really understand your concern and stress. Most of the tailors will do the alternations well, you can find a tailor with good reputations which will give you more confidence and less nervous.
  • I wish I had that problem - I don’t have enough up there, but in order for them to lower the bust would be an extra $300 on top of the $500 I’m already paying…so I settled for cups and modesty :)  But I’m sure they will be able to deliver, especially if you are using the seamstress from your bridal shop.
  • I am using the bridal shop alterations department. I do have faith in them, but I guess I need to see it all together to feel better.

I guess I just don't feel confident in the dress yet, and it shows on my face. I'm hoping the alterations will help!

    Thanks, everyone.
