To Be Takei

I've been wanting to watch this movie since it first came out and finally just got a chance to. I pretty much cried through the entire thing. Here are reasons to watch it: if you are in favor of
1. equal rights
2. gay rights
3. anti-racism
4. American history- including the bad side of it
5. Learning from the past
6. Humor
7. Star Trek
8. Syfy
9. George Takei, the badass

I mean holy shit. As a Jew I could relate to a lot of his story-- the dark history of WWII, thinking you need to hide who you are, facing people that flat-out hate you because of how you were born, becoming an advocate for your cause without even meaning to because you inherently want to be accepted the same as any human, etc. But minority status aside, there is so so so much to learn from his story. He faced so much first as a Japanese American and then as a gay man. What an amazing story. He has been through so much and still finds a sense of humor through it all. I wish we told stories like this more. We could learn from our mistakes if we didn't try to hide them. I think this movie should be shown in every single school in the US. Sorry to get all serious but I am totally blown away by this story. Watch the movie!
