JK I'm always hot

But really, I have THE OILYEST FACE. Ever.
Can anyone tell me of a great setting/mattifying/anti oil powder at a decent price?

Re: HELP ME BE BEAUTIFUL.

  • Totes following.
  • When I used the Mineral Veil from Bare Essentials I really liked it, but it's been a few years since I tried it.  I also heard that they might have changed the formula?

I'm really no help at all.  I'll continue to lurk this thread now....

  • I have nasty ass oily skin and I like neutrogena's primer and powder. I don't remember what they're called but they're both for oily skin. I use the primer, bare minerals matte and finish with the neutogena powder.

  • It's not a powder, but l'oreal's magic face primer (I think that's what it's called) makes your face look totally matte.

The body shop's tea tree oil cream cleanser face wash.  It lets your skin stay pretty much oil free all day. And Instead of pressed powder after my makeup, I use Makeup forever's HD loose powder to set my foundation.  My skin stays pretty dry all day, and I have pretty oily skin. The powder does not cake on, or add more color (won't make makeup look blotchy), and it is extremely light and breathable. My skin has never had such few breakouts. I only have to reapply the HD powder in the afternoon and I am good until I wash my face at night. This powder is a little expensive ($34). But it's lasted me 5 months and still going.
  • I have a similar problem. I buy MAC's mineral powder. It really removes the oil and shine and is really light. I usually prime with MAC's BB cream and put that on top. My face never feels oily, it covers and lasts all day.

  • I have combination skin but an oily T-Zone. When I did my skincare/make up course, I knew what I should be using for my face. So been doing this since:

    1.Clearasil Gel Wash
    2.Origins United State Balancing Toner
3.Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture for Combination Skin
4.Yes To Carrots Rich Moisture Day Cream (just for my cheeks since they're the driest)

I don't use any foundations or powders on a regular basis but when I do this is what I use:

    1. Laura Mercier Oil Free Smooth Finish Flawless Fluid (it's water based so never greasy, never oily)
    2. Bare Minerals MIneral Veil in Completely Sheer

I know it can be against instinct to put oil on your face, but you can use a few drops of precious oil at night in your regular moisturizer. Your skin, after a while, will realize it has enough oil on the surface and will slowly stop to overproduce it. But go easy on this, little by little. Good luck :)

This! I can't say enough about The Body Shop Tea Tree oil line. I have super oily skin with big ugly pores and this stuff saves me. I just bought my yearly The Body Shop groupon to stock up on it. I also use MUF foundation and powder. It's very expensive but I love it.
  • My skin is generally oily but you also don't want to dry it out too much because then it gets flaky and produces more oil, so it's like it is oily and dry.

I use just regular Dove body soap morning and night with my Clarisonic. At night I use Vitamin E oil to moisturize (and it is good for healing any scars) and in the morning I use Clinique Moisturizing GEL (gell moisturizes my skin but keeps it matte).

For make up I use Revlon ColorStay for oily skin and it is amazing, and less than $10! I set it with ELF powder.

Eh, I typically blot the oily parts with toilet paper after I've been wearing it for a few hours and then put just a little bit more on.

I swear my skin is like a bad bug problem. I finally find a combo of shit that works for me and my skin's like "nope - figured it out! I'm oily as fuck again!".

Oily-skinned makeup junkie here! I agree with MUF powder being amazing. From the drugstore I like Maybelline's wonder powder. Also, oil blotting sheets and Urban Decay setting spray save my life!

    My go-to foundations:

    - Garnier BB cream for combination/oily skin (light/medium coverage)
    - Clinique Even Better foundation or Acne Solutions foundation (medium coverage)
    -  Estee Lauder Double Wear (full coverage)
    - Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder foundation (full coverage)- this one is SUPER expensive, but I just save it for when I'm going out/for special occasions and it doesn't budge!

Sadly I have yet to find a good primer that doesn't feel heavy/gross on my skin. But my go-to moisturizer is the Clinique moisturizing gel.

  • Urban Decay setting spray is one of the best.  I also only use Skindinavia in the summertime, it's magical.

  • Has anyone had problems with BB cream being too oily on their skin? I subscribe to ipsy and Birchbox and every BB cream I have ever tried always looks so oily on me. I also have oily skin and it drives me nuts. I'm going to go with some of the recommendations here. I also use Bare Minerals Mineral Veil, it tends to help a bit.

Yes!! I've resigned myself to the fact that I just can't wear BB cream, it wasn't meant to be. The only one I can wear (and I actually wear it to work everyday!) is the Garnier one specifically formulated for combo-oily skin. It only comes in 2 shades though, but the coverage is pretty light so I can still wear it!

It is such a bummer because I felt like the coverage was flawless. I can't wear Sheer Cover for the same reason, makes me look too oily, and THAT was the shit. I used to use Bare Minerals powder, but switched to Jane Iredale, and I like that a lot, feel like the coverage is better. However, I liked BB creams until I realized that it's just too heavy for my skin type.

I recently had airbrush makeup done (about a month ago), and felt it was too cakey for oily skin, found out later on that Temptu is NOT good for oily skin, but Dinair is actually better.

Oh cool, I've never tried airbrush makeup! I feel like a struggle with oily-skinned ladies is that if we want a lightweight, sheer coverage as opposed to full coverage, there are limited options because they're always branded as "tinted moisturizers" etc, which just don't agree with my skin!

I will look into that one, thank you! @lovegood90 I feel like airbrushing is great, but it felt a but more cakey than what I am used to.

  • I, and everyone else, thought I was insanely oily. Actually, every derm I went to also thought that. I would joke that you could oil a bowling alley with what would come up on my nose. Started going to an all natural place where they sell all natural oil cleansers and do deep pore extraction facials (seriously 3 hour facials with about an hour of extractions, it's hell). After the first two facials my skin peeled like crazy and come to find out, I was using such strong chemicals on my skin to strip the oil it made it overproduce oil to compensate. Just a thought. Now I can get away with bareminerals.

I still swear by a great primer; I use Hourglass. It was the only thing to keep it under control and today I use it for when I know I cant do much touchup. Also, my face would oxidize my foundation like CRAZZY so BB, MUF and a lot of others I couldn't use. It would literally turn my foundation 2-3 shades darker. On top of that, I have very yellow undertones. If you're looking for heavier coverage without the cake, I suggest Kat von D's lock-it foundation with a beauty blender. That's what I used to use and will probably use for my wedding.

That is so interesting! I don't think that would apply to me, as I've been an oilslick since befrore any facial products, but def something to look into!
