H's birthday is next Tuesday! Need menu help!

H is ob-freaking-sessed with my homemade spaghetti so I will be making him spaghetti with sausage, stew meat, and homemade meatballs. I will also be making a made from scratch raspberry, cocunut cake.

I am spacing side dishes though. A salad? Savory connolis? Halp me!

  • Yum! I'd definitely do a salad with that.
  • What type of goodies should I throw in the salad? I am not a salad girl...at all. In fact I avoid them like the plague, so I am at a loss.

  • I don't think you can ever go wrong with a Caesar salad. But my favourite salad ever is a kale salad, with goat cheese and raisins and a dressing made with Dijon mustard/honey/olive oil/balsamic/salt/pepper/minced garlic.

  • I'm not a salad person, so I would do an appetizer instead of a side dish type of thing.

Do you like crab? I made this and it's to die for.

I think a Caesar salad would be easy and good with pasta.

My favorite salad has iceberg, romaine, and red leaf lettuce, blue cheese crumbles, bacon, boiled egg cut up, cheddar cheese, tomato, and cucumber with drizzled italian dressing and blue cheese dressing! Yummmm.

  • Maybe an appetizer like crostini or a little antipasto plate?

  • I always make garlic bread that FI and I are obsessed with. First I mince garlic and saute it for a couple minutes in butter. Then I add more melted butter and olive oil to the mixture. Then slice a loaf of Italian bread but don't cut all the way through. Just slice it ALMOST down to the bottom crust. Drizzle the olive oil/butter/garlic mixture in between each slice and on top just for good measure. Wrap in foil and bake in the oven till it's all warm and crusty and delicious!

  • Antipasto or caprese salad? Sauteed summer squash and zucchini with Italian seasoning? Garlic roasted brussels sprouts?

  • With a main that heavy I'd definitely do vegetables, if not a salad. At this time of year, our favourites are roasted anything (Brussels sprouts, carrots or other root veg, broccoli...) with sliced garlic, olive oil and some salt and pepper, and then when they come out of the oven I drizzle them with lemon juice and truffle oil.
