Re: First Christmas As Husband And Wife

  • We really need a "Our First Christmas" ornament, because I'm sappy like that. Suggestions? Maybe one we could put our wedding picture in?

    Check out bronners.com

    That's really cute, @lolo883 thanks!

  • I bought an ornament that is a three-tier white wedding cake with little roses on it at a craft fair. I had the gal write "Our First Christmas as Mr. & Mrs. 2014" on it. I showed it to hubby and he replied, "But we aren't going to even be together" so that made me sad. I think we'll just do an early Christmas before I leave to see my folks.

  • This will be our first Christmas in our own home, 2nd Christmas married, 5th Christmas living together and 9th Christmas together! So many changes over the years!

This year we are taking 9 DAYS OFF TOGETHER!!! WOOHOO!!! The first 4 days will be in CANCUN for H's company's Holiday outing (1300 people and Snoop Dogg performed last year.... heard they upped the budget for this year's entertainment!). Then visiting with family, having lots of fun and then hopefully a day or two of time to relax together! I am excited, can you tell!?! :)

I was so excited to decorate our home this year including lights outside.... here is my concern; We leave for Cancun early on Dec 20th (possibly even the night before to stay at a hotel by the airport) and get back LATE Dec 23rd. We wake up on the 24th and travel to H's family and spend the night there. We go right to my family on the 25th and wont be back in our home till late Christmas night. I don't know if we should bother putting lights up since we'll be gone for almost a week before Christmas, and not sure I want to leave them on while we are gone... yet if we turn them off I don't want it to be like "HEY LOOK WE ARE NOT HOME!"

  • I think I'd like to take a little trip somewhere. Last year we were living together and debated getting a tree and just thought "nah". It's a hassle and our place is pretty small. We'll get more into it when we have kids, but for now we aren't religious or anything so Christmas isn't really a big deal. I'm mostly just excited that we'll both have a couple weeks off from obligations.

Put a timer on your Christmas lights. They turn on at sunset, go off at midnight. Or whichever times you choose.

This! I'll probably have mine on a timer this year just so I don't have to go into the cold garage to plug them in. :)

  • I would never be able to remember to turn off/on Christmas lights haha. Plus I get home from work when it's been dark out for 3 hours already, and then go straight to bed. So Christmas lights just wouldn't exist. We plan on getting a timer for our new house, my dad has used a timer for as long as I can remember!

TIMERS are your FRIENDS. I love them. (I don't have any any more but I will be replacing.)

This is our first Christmas living together but since it's going to be in my parents' house/FI will have to work for sure/we're flying out Christmas night, I don't think we'll do anything super special. THAT BEING SAID: I am already making plans for our first Christmas in our own place (next year!) so there's that. I'm hoping that we can have a tradition of breakfast for dinner and opening (one of) our gifts to each other on Christmas Eve, although that will depend entirely on proximity to family. I also want to get a new ornament each year, from somewhere we've gone or commemorating something we've done. I wish I'd bought one in Universal, but I didn't. Because I'm a dummy, and it was MAY. Sad face.

FI wasn't properly prepared for my Christmas glee last year. I was in a tiny apartment, he was in a tiny apartment, I was going out of town, he was working and in school, and neither of us had the energy to decorate (and really FI didn't have the want-to either). So I just wore my little $3 light necklace every day and we exchanged gifts as soon as his were wrapped because I couldn't wait.

He's learning this year. I was called the "Christmissy" this week.

  • Oh my gosh, we got 3 different ornaments at our wedding (first Christmas, first year together, etc). I know Hallmark sells some nice ones.

  • Last year was our first Christmas "together". I bought us an "our first Christmas" ornament and DH proposed. :P So Christmas will always be extra special!

This year as our first Christmas as H+W will probably just be the same as last year festivity-wise. My family was never big on Christmas growing up (mom is Jewish, but we still did Christmas-lite).

I want to buy a menorah this year.
