I bet I can one-up you on the haircut thing, don't be embarrassed. I got a haircut when I graduated university a year and a half ago and haven't had one since and I have a really, really stupid reason why.

It's because I hate the socialization part where you have to make small talk with your stylist and let her feign interest in your job and hobbies and then let her tell her everything you're doing wrong with your hair. And now it's been so long that I am terrified to go back to a salon because I KNOW I'm going to get the world's snottiest lecture on my split ends and the cut (especially because I've been making FI cut the ends off with my sewing scissors whenever it starts to look too long and gross...he's no stylist but he can cut in a straight line, so it's good enough for me.)

OMG I HATE this part. You're doing me a service, we're not fucking besties. I don't want to talk to you. I want to zone out because getting my hair done feels nice; I don't want to tell you all my problems and secrets. Pretend you're my oil change guy and STFU.

Maybe I should learn just enough of like Polish or ASL or something so they think they can't communicate with me and don't try.

@amelisha you're not alone. I hate going to get hair cuts for the exact same reason. I hate the socialization and I hate that I can never communicate how I would like my hair cut so I end up hating it and refusing to go back. I got my hair cut in August and before that it had been over a year since my last cut.

I feel you ladies on the socialization part! Of course last night was fine, because it was my bestie and I got drunk on wine. LOL.

 

One time I went to a salon and the stylist decided that I seemed like the right person to tell what type of porn her husband watches and how she wished that he wouldn't and yadayadayada. I couldn't wait to get out of that chair!

And I finally found a hair stylist that I don't mind talking to, and she leaves me alone if I'm in a quiet mood.  I probably won't be able to see her anymore once my program starts and I am so sad about that.  

My old stylist though...omg, she never shut up.  The worst part was that she would stop doing whatever she was doing to talk, so a forty minute hair cut and dye would turn into two and a half hours.

I think I'm just going to go full FLDS sister-wife and just have long, all-one length hair forever so I don't have to endure the salon anymore. Unless someone opens a totally quiet one. Hey, maybe that's a million-dollar idea if I can bill it as "zen-like" or something rather than "a salon for awkward people"...

I love my hairdresser because she will catch if I'm in the mood or not to talk and then act accordingly. It's awesome.
