Which has better photo ops? Staybridge Suites PDX vs Four Points Sheraton Portland East

I'm planning a destination wedding in Gresham, OR.  Unfortunately, I'm unable to personally visit many of these venues but I have already reserved a block of rooms for my guests at both the Staybridge Suites PDX and Fourt Points Sheraton Portland East.  I have yet to decide which one I will use for my day of wedding preparation.  Which one offers better photo opportunities?

Thank you!

  • The Staybridge is close to the airport, pretty much surrounded by several other airport hotels & fast food restaurants, definitely short on views, though you could go up to Rocky Butte or Mt. Tabor pretty easily from there and get nice views toward Mt. Hood. Mt. Tabor also has really neat old reservoirs w/ wrought iron fencing that's nice. Both of those are easily within 20 minutes of the hotel, and it wouldn't be so bad getting over to Gresham from there.

The Sheraton is just off I-84, not really a pretty setting either. But the Sheraton is closer to Gresham, basically on the edge of it, and even better, that much closer to the Gorge. You could zip out to Multnomah Falls from there (27mi, on I-84, so a fairly quick 27 miles!), or go up to the Crown Point Overlook (Vista House), maybe 15 miles from the hotel. There's LaTourelle Falls & Bridal Veil Falls pretty close to the Vista House also. You might also be able to do some pictures at McMenamin's Edgefield in Troutdale, but I'd call them first to check, as they do lots of weddings there and might be a little territorial about that.

Lots of scenic opportunies in the general Portland area if you're willing to go a little farther but I know that time will be tight on the big day!

    Hope that's helpful!

  • Had a thought- Mt. Tabor might not be so good on a Saturday if you want to go to the top- you can only park part way up on the weekends and it's a bit of a way to walk in a wedding gown to get to the top. But you could still access the reservoirs by car.

  • Thanks for your suggestions, HalloweenOR!  You're right, it's going to be a tight schedule that day (we will only have the photographers for 5 hours) so I'll have to research further which we'd be able to swing.

I actually was referring to taking photos within the hotel itself.  Which hotel lobby, suites, and/or grounds would lend itself to classy pre-ceremony (prep, first look, etc.) photos?
  • Ahh, gotcha! I'm not familiar w/ either hotel on the inside- maybe their websites have some shots, to see if they have some nice landscaped areas or some such?

  • Since you have already reserved a block of rooms, you may be able to call the hotel and ask them to e-mail you some pictures of the lobby, grounds, suites, etc.
