This is for people who were wondering how to help residents of Buffalo deal with the storm. Right now, because of logistics and driving bans, the only people authorized to help are the fire department and the police department. Donations to Red Cross are always helpful, for displaced families. The region is seeing several roof collapses, concerns are growing that more residential areas will be in danger of roof collapse.
Our biggest concern is snow removal to assist the elderly in need of food and medication. The next concern is roof collapse and the third concern is the extreme flooding that will arrive this weekend. Until our roads are cleared, volunteer groups that go into the communities are immobilized. We won't know until the flooding arrives what else we are dealing with. Right now, the only volunteer groups I know of that can help is the Red Cross. Once we get the road clear, Meals on Wheels, the Buffalo City Mission, Catholic Charities, and the Food Bank of Western New York are all good charities, that will help citizens.
If you are local, items like blankets, diapers, baby formula are always needed for displaced persons. If you are not in the area, it is best to give to the Red Cross with a financial donation, because it is less expensive for the Red Cross to purchase goods rather than ship goods. I am sorry that I could not be more helpful. Once I know more, I will let you ladies knows. Thank you for keeping Buffalo in your thoughts.
