AW- kitchen remodel

I showed you guys the before pic a few months ago and asked for some input. Well here it is! Painted cabinets, new hardware, new oven, custom cabinets where the built in oven was, new window, new counter, new sink. The backsplash is the only thing not done yet so don't judge that! And the window trim will be painted white tomorrow. Keep in mind it's a "low end" 2 bedroom house, so we obviously weren't going for a high end dream kitchen look. But I'm thrilled- it's so much nicer. My father in law and husband did all the work themselves.

Thanks! Husband wanted to make it a counter top and I talked him out of it. The upper sticks out too far that it would have been in your face (like you guys pointed out) and there would have been no storage for pots & pans.

  • I really like it! I mean if I was buying your house I would keep it the way it is!

Thanks! We do plan to list the house after winter and the realtor advised us to do all of this instead of new cabinets/ granite. It won't have buyers saying wow, this kitchen is beautiful but the goal is to have it NOT to scare them away and say "look how much work it needs" like it would have before. So I think we accomplished that!

  • beautiful! I am jealous! we have a tiny outdated kitchen that needs a lot of work but we are renting and I doubt there is anything that can be done about it

but congrats on a good job!

  • Nice job!

I remember in the old discussion there was talk of maybe an island to increase counter space. Did y'all decide against it?

I think we were only going to do this if we replaced the cabinets, otherwise any new one we bought wouldn't match and that would be weird to have a giant island cabinet that didn't match. Even if we painted it grey, the shape and design would be different. But off to the other side, there's a nice quality rolling cart which I sometimes roll to the middle to do prep on.

It is fairly common for islands to not match the rest of the kitchen. I would extenuate it with dark cabinets and a gray counter top

    Here's an example:

No problem! I think so too! I have no idea what backsplash you have in mind but I think a light mint or white subway tile would look amazing in that kicten

  • You can always buy a portable island or.cart from a place like ikea. Or your husband can build one. Just get a butcher block, add legs and maybe wheels. A friend did that. It was portable but gave them extra counter space.

Google handmade portable kitchen island to get some ideas.

  • @buttercup1958 I got home from work today and they had put in white tiles and painted the window trim- yaaaay!

@lyndausvi I totally have one on the other side of the kitchen, it's got shelves and a stainless steel top and wheel- I love it!
