Thanksgiving drama

I thought I had my turkey day set with six guests coming.  I've got the food, and tonight I make the pies.
While I was out last minute shopping, one of the guests telephoned and talked to DH.  Guest said that his wife and two neighbors have decided not to come.  I have no idea what happened.  There was some buzz about an additional guest who isn't well liked, but I don't know if that had anything to do with it.
I am so disappointed.  I will try and enjoy the three guests that are coming.  I don't understand why they waited so long to decline.  Sad face.
I miss my family.

That sucks! Especially when your H kind of sprung this on you last minute, and then for them to cancel like that. However, MORE FOOD FOR YOU!!

But on the bright side, I've always really liked small dinner parties. When I was a single gal I used to host a Thanksgiving for a handful of other single friends without family nearby. We'd be between 4-6 total most years. I loved it!

I really get depressed at Thanksgiving.  I miss my kids.  I had invited these people.  It was Christmas that I didn't invite anyone, not Thanksgiving.  I will be playing the organ at church on Christmas Eve.  That will help keep me from getting lonely.
I think older people are sad at the holidays when they remember what it used to be like in their youth.  I remember Thanksgiving at my paternal grandparents' house.  Everybody brought food, and the cousins ran around playing noisily.  Nobody minded.  I was usually in a corner with a book.  There was a copy of Shakespeare plays that I enjoyed reading.
My own children never experienced that kind of family Thanksgiving.  I always cooked, but there was no one else to join us, since extended family was in Iowa and we were in Maryland.  Our mothers were both difficult, so we spent the holidays with each other instead.
I just put the leaves in the ancient dining room table.  I will set it for five people.  One less pie to bake.

Ohhhh, sorry, I mixed them. I'm sorry you feel depressed at Thanksgiving and I hope you are still able to have a nice holiday with those who can be there.

That was rude of them to cancel at the last minute, unless they're sick or had some kind of emergency. I hope you have a lovely, relaxed dinner with the guests that are coming.

Oh no, I'm sorry. I'm sure your thanksgiving will be lovely regardless!! So, I like all pumpkin pie, warmed or chilled

If it makes you feel any better the same thing happened to me with my Friendsgiving. However, they had a legitimate excuse (called into work). Oh well, we have a 12 pound turkey for 5 people and lots of wine! Be thankful for those that will be with you, and that you can be there with them. I miss my family too.
