Any big plans today or this weekend?

I am nursing a terrible hangover this morning (I had WAY too much wine last night), so I am counting down the next hour and a half until I can go home.

H and I have to do some banking today and then we will probably do lunch. Tonight I think we are setting up our Christmas tree so I am really excited for that! Then we will probably hunker down for the rest of the night with our furbabies.

Tomorrow morning I am waking up at asscrack dawn to go to Costco with my mom. I have a holiday party coming up in my office and I need to buy the stuff for it. Lord knows I don't want to be in Costco with crowds.

Sunday I will be doing a whole lotta nothing with a side of nothing.

Re: Any big plans today or this weekend?

  • I am getting lesson plans and materials prepared for my sub. We leave this week for our NYC trip, and being on a block schedule means long class periods and a ton of activities to have to have planned for each day. Prepping for a sub is always a pain in the ass, but long classes plus multiple days, plus having 2 different class levels makes it even harder.

Tomorrow I am going to get groceries and last-minute things we need for the trip and clean house, and then on Sunday I am going to just chill.

Waiting at work for 1 pm to roll around and then I can leave to go home! The rest of the day will spent at home, snuggling the pup, cleaning the house and putting up Christmas decorations.

Tomorrow is second Thanksgiving with my in-laws for my MIL's side of the family. She asked if we could bring a pumpkin pie so I'm going to try my hand at making one.

Sunday, H and I are going to the Buffalo Bills game with three of our good friends. It's actually going to be around 50 degrees so I won't have to sit in the snow and cold all day!

It's a huge day at work for me today - exam results come out for students seeking a designation in the profession we regulate - so there's a big afternoon drinks and appetizers event. It's also our company Christmas party tonight (and my Fi's too) but I think we might skip it because it's really miserable and snowy outside and I do not want to have to go outside in a cocktail dress and heels tonight.

Tomorrow we were going to take one of my best friends to learn to ski but it's supposed to be -30 so that won't happen unless it warms up a little. Might just go shopping instead.

The roads are pretty bad and nothing is plowed yet, so we'll probably stay inside as much as possible. I have good winter tires but sometimes it's just not worth it.

  • I'm chilling out and watching movies with my mom. This afternoon we are heading to a winery and then a microbrew for dinner. Tonight we'll go look at Christmas lights. Perfect Black Friday for me!
  • I'm going to try my wedding dress on for the first time tomorrow!  It came in last week!!! I'm so nervous/excited/happy... After that, mom and I will probably shop some since the dress store I got it at is next to the mall ***score***
    image
  • I plan on drinking tonight (I picked up some hard lemonade to try) and watching Bride Day.  No real plans for Saturday.  As for Sunday, SO and I are going over to his parents' place to help decorate the inside of the house for Christmas.

I had a bunch of stupid errands I was planning to run today and really would rather procrastinate doing. So when I realized it's Black Friday this morning I said WOOP! Don't have to go run errands - it will be a mess at the stores! I'm the only one who was going into the office today and have a pretty light workload so I think I'm just going to go in for a couple hours this afternoon and then chill out the rest of the day.

Tomorrow I'm attending a wedding, Sunday back to work.

Edited: to try to add paragraphs. I know it is the great mystery of our age but anyone know why I NEVER have paragraphs when on my iPad?

  • FI's family's Thanksgiving dinner got cancelled due to work and power outages, so that was going to take place tomorrow afternoon. As there is still no power, Thanksgiving is going to have to be rescheduled.

We were supposed to go out to dinner tonight with his parents, brother, and sister-in-law for pre-birthday dinner, but since work is still nuts and they still don't have power, that is going to be rescheduled.

Tomorrow night I'm going to this awesome italian place with FI and my parents for my actual birthday.

The insulation is getting done in the attic right now. I really want to paint the hallway but I should probably wait until they're done walking through there with all their stuff. I'm watching Flavor of Love season 2 and making my shopping list for all the crap I need to get us through the weekend. My face decided to be like LOL ADULT ACNE IDC THAT YOU'RE ALMOST 29 BOOM BREAKOUT TEENAGER FACE.

    I am annoyed with it.

  • Well its currently -38C....So lots of sweaters and blankets!

FI went to Edmonton on Wednesday for an appointment and was supposed to come back tonight but he's stuck there because they got a dumping of snow and 'travel is not recommended' So I'm a little unimpressed about that. Hopefully he'll be able to leave tomorrow and get home around supper.

I'll probably clean the house tonight and get all prepared for setting up the Christmas tree on Sunday.

My main goal is to not freeze to death. May have to pick up some baileys on the way home from work for putting in some hot chocolate.

  • FI just left for AC for the night, so I have the place to myself. I'm planning on doing some cleaning, and then kickboxing at 4. I might also invite my friend over, or I'll see if my coworkers are going to happy hour. Tomorrow, FI and I are going to our friends place on LI to meet their kitty, and hang out. Sunday my Bestie MOH is coming over to help me with my bridal shower list. It's really just an excuse for us to have a girls day with wine and cheese because I already have the list and she knows this lol.

  • I'm jealous of all you Americans with your days off and your turkey comas! I have drinks and appetizers at work tonight then DH and I are going to see Mockingjay. Tomorrow I'm on a quest for a new pair of boots since I discovered that all my boots leak in the rain. I'm also going to cook a chicken with stuffing and mashed potatoes with gravy because all this Thanksgiving talk made me want a turkey dinner with all the fixings and this is my easier substitution. Sunday I'm going to yoga, then housework and homework.

  • Ha! yea. You just learn to layer and deal with it. I was shovelling my walk at 7am this morning before work and I was pretty miserable. It's all in the wind! So it kind of burns your skin??

We get temperatures like this and worse a lot in January. That's when you really have to buckle down. Last January we got into the -50's. for a couple days, it was brutal. Cars have to be plugged in all day and I usually start mine twice throughout work and let it run for a couple minutes.

If we weren't hardy we would never get to leave the house! I would love to hibernate from Mid November to February!!!!

What she said. It's not fun or anything, @beethery, but it's not as bad as it sounds unless the wind is up and your face isn't covered (and in that case, yeah, it's that bad and worse.)

My girlfriends and I had a long iMessage convo this morning about all the outdoor things we can do now that there's so much snow, though - we've planning for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tobogganing, and skating before Christmas and a regular ski trip over Christmas break. If you live with this much snow and these kind of temperatures you have to learn to make it fun or it's a long, cold, dark (literally...I walk to work in the dark and walk home in the dark at this time of year and I work normal office hours) winter.

I'm actually a huge princess about being cold, but I still walk 15 blocks to work every day even in --40 and beyond. I just dress appropriately for the weather and wear winter boots, ski pants, ski jacket, scarf over my face, toque, hood over all that, and thick leather/downfilled mittens.

@SoontobeMrsKlein, I hope FI has a safe drive. I'm sure you've heard about all the bad accidents and cars in the ditch around Edmonton today, and I bet it's worse on those scary northern highways so I'm glad he decided to wait until the snow slows down a bit. Playing it super safe is never a bad thing with the first big snow dump of the year.

  • I'm reading all of these posts about the cold and I'm like NOPE.  It was 90 yesterday.  Not that I wanted it to be 90, I would have been ecstatic with 60, but apparently we don't get "winters" any more.

I'm writing some papers and studying before going out to the college town nearby tonight.  Tomorrow there's a dart tournament at a friend's house, so we'll probably go to that.  I'll just be watching because nobody wants to see me drink and then try to throw real darts.  We'd have to clear the room and someone would probably still end up in the hospital.

We might go on a hike on Sunday too.

Safe thoughts for everyone heading out in bad weather this weekend!

I don't have them on my Kindle Fire either. I think it's a programming thing. I thought it was just on Android devices like my Kindle, but I guess it's all of them. I didn't know things had to be programmed differently for different devices (does it work like that?)

No big plans for me either. I'm going back to work Monday after 3 months off on medical leave, so I'm trying to get stuff done around here.  I need to do the Thanksgiving cooking dishes today, and some laundry, but I'm being lazy right now.  Tomorrow I want a pedicure and to put my outdoor Christmas stuff out, because it will be 70 degrees and perfect for doing that. Also need to put leftovers in the freezer to take to work for lunches.  Sunday I want to make some Chex mix and a cake to take up to work my first day back, because the Monday after a holiday weekend is always nuts, and I like my coworkers.
  • FIs kids had Thanksgiving with their mom and grandparents, so he's going to get them for the rest of the weekend. Tomorrow were going to have a second thanksgiving, and decorate for Christmas. :-)

  • amelisha I'm just glad that he has the option to stay another day. He is on day 4 of his 5 days off, so thankfully he isn't being pressured into driving home when he really shouldn't!

And my parents are glad to have him for another day, putting him to work doing the shoveling!

I have to grump a bit about the cold even though I'm really used to it. I sit at our office's reception desk and it butts up to a window that is full wall length. And is right beside the front door. And the window and the door are terribly drafty. And my foot heater that I keep under my desk broke today. So my feet are like blocks of ice. Im totally bringing my slippers in next week!!!

I put some lights up outside today, just in time to get more snow. Now I'm baking (oatmeal cranberry chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin cake roll), drinking wine and watching TV while H is at the Pistons game with his brothers. Friends' house for the Michigan game tomorrow, then Brunchgiving with my whole fam damily Sunday!

FYI H went to Costco today and it wasn't busy at all!

    Edited to fix a day.

  • FI gave me my presents tonight so he doesn't have to wake up at 3 tomorrow lol

10pc Zwilling set (SOOOOOOOO NICE) and the 3pc Kitchenaid pasta making set.

I'm so pumped, I'm going to make my own fettuccine for chicken gorgonzola and I think I'm going to try to make some GF pasta for my bestie.

  • Just had to share ... we went here tonight.
  • Whoa, where is that @holyguacamole79‌ ? It looks awesome!

I had an awesome night. I went kickboxing, and decided t not meet with my coworkers because I was pretty tired and cold. So I stayed home, and had a night of kitty cuddling and lifetime watching planned. Then my bestie/MoH texted me and told me she was in my neighborhood. So she came by with a bottle of wine, we got Chinese and another bottle of Proseco, and had a girls night in. Awesome Friday night :)

  • I bought groceries, picked up FI after he worked late, and came home and did a couple loads of laundry and baked the boys apple pie again. And then cleaned the oven because I dripped something all over the bottom of it sometime this week and the house smelled like burning every time I tried to cook something thereafter. Yaaaaaaawn.
