Second Weddings

What to get an older couple for their second wedding?

Hi everyone!
I am going to cross post this on the second weddings board too. My husband's aunt is getting married to her second husband. Her first husband was my husband's uncle and passed away a few years ago. She is in her 60s, has a great job, a gorgeous home, and pretty much everything you would buy a couple at their first wedding. She is not registered anywhere, and we are invited to a "cake & drinks" party after the wedding. What would you get for this couple? I feel like cash would be awkward, they are more established than we are, and would like to get them a gift, but have no idea what to get!

Thanks in advance!

  • Personally, this is where I would go with either
    1. Experiences, or
    2. Shopping like it's their birthday/Christmas/etc., but a bit bigger.

Are they going on a honeymoon?  You could get them a certificate for a night at a local B&B or more upscale hotel in the area if they aren't.

Are you near a city with any theatres?  Buy them tickets to a play or musical you think they would like (I know it's hard to pick dates, but with enough notice I'm sure it shouldn't be an issue - I've had tickets for dates out in August 2015 for months now) or buy them a gift certificate.  Or if they like classical music, perhaps the local chamber orchestra or opera?

Do they have any shared hobbies?  Do they like wine - you could buy them a small wine fridge or add to their collection with a wine of the month subscription (or find another "of the month" kind of thing - beer, coffee, bacon, cheese, etc.)  Are they active - would like like something like a certificate for maybe ballroom dancing classes?  Or other classes like painting, cooking, wine tasting?  Do they like museums - buy them a year membership to a local museum.  Do you live near any rivers or larger lakes where there might be day or evening cruises offered to the public - buy them a certificate to take a dinner cruise together.

  • I agree with experiences.  Purchase a couples massage,  an attraction in the city, etc.
  • Gift Certificate to a nice resturant in their area? Depending on what is available in their area & what they enjoy, GC for seeing musical performances or plays.
