This is (literally) a pain in my uterus! [nwr] [tmi?]

So I have an IUD. I like it well enough and love the no periods! It hasn't been like "omg life changing" but it's perfectly fine for BC. I was previously on The Pill.

Last night I had sex with DH and it was really great, but about halfway through I got major sharp pains in my uterus area: it felt like he had been pushing on my cervix and caused the IUD to irritate my muscles. It was so bad that I could just lay flat (and obviously had to stop sexy times!). It lasted about 30 minutes and then subsided enough that I could fall asleep. This morning I'm A-ok though.

I've had other occupancies where I've noticed an irritation during sex or orgasm, but nothing this bad.

Since basically the whole point of the IUD for me is to help with sex (as in, no pregnancy), I'm highly considering going back to The Pill. While it's mildly less convenient, it's never hindered my sex life in this manner: not even once!

So...thoughts? Anyone with an IUD experience this? Anyone have an IUD removed?

  • Hm....I would maybe go to the gyno and ask about this. I haven't had this happen but maybe the IUD has shifted or something-causing the weird pains. They may suggest a sono?

I thought about this, but I had no bleeding and no pain today. I quick Google search did make it seem that this kind of thing is relatively normal with rough sex (which doesn't do much to lessen my annoyance at this situation though - this isn't something that I want to be a regular occurrence!).
  • I'd definitely talk to your gyno about it. There are times during sex I notice my IUD...it just depends on the position/angle and how hard we're going at it. It wasn't pain though so much as pressurey crampy type feelings. It's not enough of an annoyance for me to want to get rid of my IUD though...the pill was causing all sorts of side effects by the time I finally got off of it and I really don't want to go back. Plus I really like not having to take a pill anymore or having to worry about kids for the next 10 years unless I want to.
