We do secret Santa in my family since we have so many people. I pulled my dad's name. He is obsessed with zombies and apocalypse stories. He has always loved that kind of stuff and we always talk about it and watch shows about. I thought I would put together an awesome zombie survival kit. So far I have

 Zombie cook book

-Mini bottles of scotch and gin, for "medicinal purposes", or one big bottle.

-His favorite candy bars and freeze dried ice cream. I didn't want to actually get him dried food, because blegh. But I thought he would love to try freeze dried ice cream just once.

-Nerf shotgun

-First aid kit

-Waterproof match thing

Anything else I should add? Maybe a water bottle? I'm running low on ideas.

Re: Secret Santa for my old man

  • For sure a water bottle or canteen of some variety! Otherwise, this looks AWESOME.

    What about a compass?

Also freeze dried ice cream is one of my favorite things. FI and I went to a local museum the other day that sells it in their gift shop and I was SO EXCITED to get a package of it. :D
  • An official CDC zombie apocalypse graphic novel: http://www.cdc.gov/phpr/zombies_novella.htm

  • Full disclosure - I have absolutely no idea what purpose these things serve (how will 16 feet of parachute cord help me survive anything?) , but my aunt bought me one a few years ago and people were oohing and aahing over how smart it was. I also don't know how a bracelet "contains a knife." But it seems like this should go in a zombie survival kit.

My SO may or may not have purchased 30 things of astronaut ice cream off of amazon for us . . . we have a small problem. BUT it was like $3 which is cheaper than the local museum shops!

  • Another vote for a water bottle. I actually like certain kinds of freeze dried food, I work at an outdoor store and go camping so I've tried quite a few. We sell the ice cream so I send my brothers some every year for Christmas.

How about...a compass or a nice pocket knife? A whistle? Might attract zombies but could be helpful to communicate with your group. Some sort of water purification tablets or the liquid kind? I have a Life Straw, not sure if that's available in the USA, but that would be a handy thing to have in an apocalypse setting (and I actually use it in the backcountry which is nice).

When you untie the cord, the metal loop on the bracelet is the handle of a small blade.

H has like 3 of these in his car in case we get stranded somewhere.

  • I agree with the water bottle idea.  Hydration would be critical in that scenario.

Also, for food, what about beef jerky?  That's a staple for survival type food. Or trail mix is another good non-perishable item.

What about a multi-tool?  A few years ago I bought DH a Leatherman Surge and he uses it almost daily.  Plus, it's got so much stuff on it that it would be awesome in an apocalypse scenario.

Maybe a first aid kit?  With instructions?

A machete would work well too.  Along with the bandages and pain killers.  :)
