Have you ever won a silly contest?

Re: Have you ever won a silly contest?

  • I did actually win a Jelly Bean count contest last spring at work!  I was only off by 3 and won a free dinner at a local hotel and an Easter basket with candy and a really soft bunny.  :)

I won first place at the state fair in the individual line dance competition. As in a did a country line dance all by myself...not sure how that's still a line dance...and won. Does is get sillier than that?? :-p
    ~xoxo~

  • When I was about 14, the local BooksAMillion had a midnight release party for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It had a costume contest. I dressed up as Buckbeak the hippogriff. I won, and was the first person in my area to get the book.

It was my one shining moment.

Nothing that official, but I'm the current reigning champion of birthing oranges into mugs for all the baby showers in my circle. It's gotten me some nice lotions and candles. Too bad it's not a professional sport coz DH and I would be set!
    Um... what???

All I can picture is a bunch of women squeezing oranges out from between their thighs, and it's not pretty...
Yup definitely never heard of this game....
Yes, it is just that: hold an orange between your thighs and walk/waddle across the room without dropping it, then deposit it safely into a coffee mug. Or there's the x-treme sports version of doing multiple oranges and multiple mugs at once!

I should also mention that I never have to compete against more than 2 or 3 other baby shower guests...most of them refuse to play (shocking, I know).
  • When I was 8 I won a corn eating contest at the county fair. I got a $25 gift certificate to the fair, I bought a funnel cake and stuffed animal. I kind of wish I hadn't won, before my braces I looked like a rabbit so even now 16 years later my dad still teases me relentlessly about winning.

I used to basically drink for free during Applebees late night happy hour. Tuesday they had trivia and me and my BFF usually won at least 2 out of 4 rounds. Thursdays they had another trivia thing that you were supposed to use your phone for. People hated us I usually guessed the rest of the question and had found the answer before the waitress finished asking. We always went 4 for 4. The price for each round was $20 bucks to Applebees.

  • I won a contest in 5th grade for the best D.A.R.E. poster. I remember getting this giant box in the middle over the summer between 5th and 6th grade and finding the biggest teddy bear inside with a letter saying that I had won. 10 year old me was pretty psyched.

The last thing I won was 2 bottles of wine as a door prize at a wine tasting event last summer. Now that's my kind of prize.

omg I won the DARE poster contest in 5th grade too! I got a big Larry the Lion wearing a DARE t-shirt lol

  • When I was 11 or so, I won R10 (which is about $1 in today's money) from the municipal library. I wrote an "essay" (it was really more like two paragraphs, but whatevs) on "Why I Love My Library". I bought myself a Magnum on the way home.

Other than that, I won a chocolate bar in a raffle once. And I came second in the country for a national General Knowledge test in Gr. 7, and won R900 in unit trusts, but that isn't really silly...

This totally happened to me! My ex and another couple went to a bowling alley and they were randomly doing a trivia night so we figured why not. We ended up winning a pitcher of beer, and appetizer sampler platter, and 4 ticket to a local comedy club!

Other than that...um...I win at those claw machines a lot. My mom remembers the first time I ever played one: I asked her for a quarter and she hands me one and starts explaining that no one really wins but I interrupt her with "LOOK MOM I WON!"
  • I won $1000 from calling into a radio station. Actually my psycho ex called in and handed me the phone so I'd win, he'd already won. I have no idea how he managed that.

  • As a kid, I was chosen as the princess for the Fourth of July parade.  They had a king, queen, prince and princess.  They stuck the names of all the kids in town (small town) in a jar and drew for it.  I was young and I said I didn't want to do it, and then the rest of my growing up years, I wish I'd accepted and hoped my name would get drawn again each year.  It never did.

My family won a library scavenger hunt contest.  We were the only family that actually went through and did all the steps.  :p  We won a box that had a couple series of random animated TV shows and some snacks.

Also, I won a drawing in college.  At a college club fair, they gave you cards and you had to get punches by visiting at least five different tables.  So I did that and put my name in.  I get an email that I had won.   I won a t-shirt (that I like) in the cheapest of the cheap drawstring backpacks along with a random stress ball branded with my college's concert board name and a pack of ramen (because apparently that's what every college student loves and eats all the time!).  I hate ramen.

I also won another college drawing and got a movie ticket.  I just found it in a pile of stuff the other day.  It never expires, which is good, because I now live in a town that doesn't have that type of movie theatre.
  • I don't know what made me remember this but a few years ago I went to my parents' country club for their Kentucky Derby party all decked out with a huge hat and everything. I won best dressed for the women, and some old guy got best dressed for the men. We had to go stand in front of the big horse head ice sculpture and get our picture taken together -- awkward. But I got a gift certificate to a restaurant.

FI said he saw me in my Kentucky Derby picture on facebook before we met in person (we had a mutual friend who introduced us) and thought I was too beautiful for him but he fell for me anyway. So I guess I also won my FI's heart, if we wanna get cheesey about it :P

  • I won a radio contest on accident. I was listening to the radio and they said call in to vote for which band you want to hear next! One was a song I liked, the other was one I hated and was really sick of hearing so I thought, why not. Well it turns out that by doing that I won tickets for a MMA or cage fight, can't remember. I was just like, uh, thanks? And the guy was kind of like well are you going to pick them up or not? I said sure, but never did. Then they played the song I hated anyway.

Now why couldn't it have been a thousand dollars or a trip to Hawaii or something like that? Or Subway, that would work. I could care less about MMA.
