Several months late, by hiiiiiiiiiiii

I guess I just sort of jumped into some of these threads with both feet after lurking a few months and never really introduced myself. I saw that it's a popular thing on NEY, but since I am engaged I didn't join in. Anything you ladies interested in knowing?

  • If you are going to a sporting event with your FI, what is it likely to be?
  • How long have you guys been together? Do you have any pets?

  • What kind of music do you like?  What brought you to Atlanta?  (I think I remember reading that you aren't a native, but maybe I'm wrong.)

Football, preferably college. I went to Penn State and then transferred to Georgia Southern, who just won the Sun Belt Conference championship. So yeah, football.

We celebrated two years at the end of September. We moved in together after 3 months and got engaged June 20th. We have a dog that he brought to the relationship and a cat that I brought.

I'm pretty diverse in my music taste. Billy Joel is my "not afraid to admit I've always loved him" artist, but I listen to newer country (Luke Brian is a GSU alum), Eddie Vedder, Van Morrison, and general Top 40 stuff. Not a huge fan of Nicki Manaj/Kanye West/rap in general I guess.

I moved to the Savannah area in 2005 for college but stayed for work and was hating my job there. My family has a lot of history in aviation, so my dad recommended I look into flight control. I moved to Atlanta in March 2012 to work for an airline here, which is where I met FI. We're both open to living wherever, but have loved getting away and travelling in the meantime!

What are your thoughts on mayo?

I think I've already seen you chime in on cash bars so I don't think that needs to be asked. But maybe it wasn't you. So if you haven't chimed in...how do you feel about cash bars/having guests open their wallets at your wedding?

Your username...charlie yankee from the phonetic alphabet or just a coincidence? If phonetic alphabet, are you military?
That's a big HELL NO to cash bars, PPD's, gaps, and all other rude as hell etiquette breaches. We are doing an open bar with beer and wine, because that's what we can afford. No gaps, we're not already married and lying to everyone, and I'm not insisting on an even wedding party that I asked two years in advance. We're actually not doing a wedding party at all, not even BM and MOH. Just us, surrounded by our families and friends that we love.

Yes, my username is from the phonetic alphabet. I'm in the airline industry, so we use it for everything. I'm Charlie Alpha Yankee at work. My dad and grandfather were both in the military (Navy pilots), but a lot of my family (and FI) is in aviation.

ETA: I got so worked up by the cash bar topic that I forgot about the mayo, which actually is the reason I started this thread (see @jenna8984's thread about TB). I like mayo, but I'm not crazy about it. I pretty much only eat it on turkey sandwiches and in deviled eggs (lurve me some deviled eggs).

  • OMG the pets are adorable!!!!

I love bone wings because to me the skin is the best part. But DH will only eat boneless because he likes breading instead of skin.

Also, on the topic of deviled eggs, I recently learned that I cannot eat MIL's. She adds RELISH to the filling. RELISH. Do you know how unpalatable it is to be surprised by hard, sour chunks in a creamy deviled egg???
That's an abomination. Same with celery in chicken salad.

  • Hello!

I can't stand the smell of deviled eggs. I use to love them, now the smell makes me want to barf.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Aw do you have pics of the pets? What are their names? Do you like traditional chicken wings or boneless?
The dog is a 6 year old Swiss Mountain dog named Willy (FI insists he came from the breeder with that name) and the cat is 5ish and her name is Kingsley (I rescued her from the Humane Society, which found her in the Burger King parking lot...hence the name).

This is my favorite picture of the two of them. Kingsley loves him so much and Willy is having a hard time not being jealous of her. He was looking at me like I needed to save him from some clingy rando.

ETA: I'm a boneless fan, but I'm coming around to the bone-in wings

OMG side note on this, but how is the temperament and intelligence of your Swissy? I had a Bernese mountain dog as a kid and he was the sweetest thing, though not the smartest (several stories of him sleeping on his back on the top of the stairs and rolling over in his sleep). I've been looking to perhaps get a Swiss mountain dog in the next few years...but not sure how my toller and the two kitties would react.
  • Which is your favorite Harry Potter movie?
I'm partial to Prisoner of Azkaban, because I love Sirius Black. I wish he could have stuck around for Harry.
POA is my favorite movie but half blood prince is my favorite book!

What is your favorite food/type of food?

I think this is a very important topic. We need to know which knotties we will have to off and eat first.

YES. I loooooove some avocado in my chicken salad though! Creaminess with soft chicken salad works. Crunchy/chunky with soft chicken salad does not.

Relish should not go anywhere near deviled eggs. I'm a purist, just a little mayo, spicy mustard, salt, and pepper. And I love red grapes in my chicken salad! No celery whatsoever please.

His temperament is great, but he's a jumper. This can be an issue with little kids, but if he had some (much needed) training then that could be fixed. He loves people and we've never had any aggression from him.

He's 6 now, so he's getting up there for a large breed dog but you'd never know. He has the energy of a puppy and is still sweet as can be. FI let some of his training fall by the wayside before we met, but he knows the basic commands and seems pretty smart.

I highly recommend the Swissy if you're thinking about it. If he's a puppy, it shouldn't be hard to integrate him into the family and with training he can learn to be gentle with everyone.

This is a hard one! I LOVE sushi. Like seriously love it. I actually had to Google how much sushi you had to consume to get mercury poisoning because I was concerned. If allowed, I would eat it 5 days a week.

The other two days I'd eat Mexican food.

I'm kinda conniving. I could infiltrate their group and work my way up through the ranks of leadership. Then lead them to their demise.

...Or at least in the direction of those BSC ladies on The Bump :)

  • I LOOOVE sushi as well! I have joked that I wish I could built a salmon farm in my backyard and just eat raw salmon for every meal. Steak is my other true love- a fatty rib eye, medium rare mmmmm but I don't have that very often. I have sushi much more frequently.

  • I posted this in the other "new here" thread, but wanted to ask you, so here it is:

    A couple Atlanta centric questions:

    ITP or OTP?
    Publix or Kroger?
    Highways or backroads?
    Lake or beach?
Since you like newer country, do you prefer Kicks or The Bull?
Favorite mall around Atlanta?  (Are you a Lenox/Phipps kind of girl, or do you make the hike to the new outlets on 575?)

I live in Vinings, so I'm ITP

Publix is closer to me so I go there more often, but I like the variety at Kroger

Backroads all the way. I take 285 to work and I want to cry every day.

Beach time a million. I grew up in the Philly suburbs, so the Jersey shore was an hour drive. Spent summers in the Outer Banks, and lived in Savannah for several years (and on Tybee for a summer).

I don't have a preference between the two. We have Google Music, so I listen to whatever I want on there most of the time.

I'm a Lenox and Perimeter girl. FI is from the Houston area, so we go to Chuy's a lot and Sur la Table up there, then I go to Lenox to shop and drool.

ETA: I actually have no idea where 575 is. I pretty much stick to 85, 75, 285, and 400. I'm really bad with directions. I only know one way to get to work and I work next to the airport. It's not that hard, there are signs. I just can't.

OMG WE'RE NEIGHBORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm OTP, but so close that I do all my Publix and Home Depot trips in Vinings. :)  We also love Orient Express.  We stay on the Hibachi side, but they do sushi too!  La Paz is good for Mexican food.  I'm sure you've already discovered both those places!

285 is SO cry-worthy.  So is 75.  It's nice that 75 tends to back up starting around 285 (if you're heading north), so we can at least get off at Cumberland and avoid that part of it.  575 is off 75, starting around the Kennesaw area.

I'm a perimeter girl, all the way.  I love the mall and the stuff around it, and I generally like that part of town.  Lenox and Phipps are definitely more for drooling than shopping for me too.

  • @lurkergirl YAY! That is awesome! I've had Orient Express, but FI thought the hibachi was too salty. I love hibachi so I didn't notice. Their sushi is pretty good, but Sushi Tong on Atlanta Road is my favorite. Their Fantastic Roll is ah-may-zing!

We go to Meehan's Public House way too much. Their food is really good and I love the hefeweizen they carry, Koenig Ludwig. I also haven't been to La Paz but I've heard good things about it.
