DIY Veil - Where to buy lace

Hi ladies!

Has anyone made their own veil?

I love one that I tried on at the bridal salon where I purchased my dress, but wasn't ready to commit to it. It had a thin lace scalloped edge at just the right width.

My mom made my sisters (no lace involved) and wants to make another, but we can't find the right lace anywhere. Aside from ordering online - any suggestions or tips?

Re: DIY Veil - Where to buy lace

  • I bought mine at Joann Fabrics (with a 50% off coupon). It wasn't exactly what I was hoping for design-wise, but I had purchased a few other pieces online and the color didn't turn out to be what I needed.

  • @lolo883 - Were you able to find that in the store? I don't have a Joann's local to be but made a special trip when I was home for Thanksgiving and they had nothing. So disappointed.

Thanks for the link. I need to take a peek at their return policy since the whole reason I'm paranoid about ordering it online is the same issue you mentioned - color matching.

Your veil looks gorgeous in your picture, by the way!

    Thank you!

Yes, I found it in a store near me. I don't believe you can return cut pieces, but if you bought the whole spool (10 yards) I imagine you could. Do you know how much you need? I think mine used 7 yards.

  • That's the other issue. I need 2-3 yards, 3 max.

The veil I loved at the salon was $150 but of course my mom was all "I did your sister's veil, I can make that so much cheaper!" She's got the chops to do it, but no lace.

  • Hmmmm... Etsy might be an option, especially with a shorter length, someone might have a remnant... but you'd still have the color issue. At least there since you're dealing with a "real person" they might be willing to send you a tiny snip of it first, or accept a return.

  • Good thinking. Any excuse to peruse etsy is a good one. Thanks!
