Holiday blues

The weather is lousy. I miss my kids.  My cat likes my husband best.  I got a bad haircut yesterday.  DH is being poopy.  Tell me some great things that are happening in your life.  I need cheering up.  (I've already tried chocolate!)

Re: Holiday blues

  • Great things in our life:

FI's surgery that we thought would be extremely costly for us actually wound up being a fraction of what we expected.  That means we get to spoil our families with good presents for Christmas.

Sick dog is on the mend and will hopefully not have to lose his glaucoma eye.

FI got a nice Christmas bonus, and it sounds like construction in Atlanta is about to see a MAJOR boom, which is excellent news for us!

I have my wedding dress, and I think I found the perfect shoes!  (They were one of the first pair I liked, so I feel compelled to keep looking before I purchase!)

Also WR, we just changed our dinner plans to something that will be much better.

It's good to see the good stuff in writing...it's so much easier sometimes (for me at least) to focus on the negative!

  • My fantastic news: My roommate is moving out on Tuesday, and FI starts moving in on Friday!!  I had told roommate he could stay until the wedding in June, so all this time without him is such a bonus!!  FI works a lot though, so it will be so odd being in my own house completely alone!  I can walk around naked for the first time since I bought the place!! (Too bad it's winter so I certainly won't)

I'm also having a birthday party for my dog on Friday.  FI's parents will be in town to help with the move, so if my family shows up it will be the first time they meet them.

My sister is coming to town tonight and staying until Friday.  It'll be nice to see her, and she is going to come check out my LGBTQ+ group on Tuesday, too. :)   Oh, and next week is my last week of work and school stuffs before the Christmas holidays.  And there is some heavy cream in the fridge, and hopefully SO will make some crème brûlée and chicken alfredo with it at some point.

My happy thing is spending the weekend with SIL. We drove around last night looking at Christmas lights until she fell asleep in the backseat and it made me think about when we'll have our own little one to show the lights and that made me all happy.
@magicink You just warmed my black heart.

  • The same crappy weather you have having is bring SNOW here.  Woohoo.  The mountains were so bare.    Time to go skiing.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

And here! Just a dusting in Denver, but more is coming. Makes for a perfect morning to wrap up in a blanket on the couch, with a nice, warm cup of coffee on one side of me and a nice, warm Gus on the other, a snug little Bean doing somersaults inside me, and CBS Sunday Morning on in the background. Perfect Sunday.

  • I'm having a hard time getting really into Christmas this year. (Other than throwing reindeer antlers on my dog for my own amusement.)

BUT - My favorite part of any holiday are the traditions that I share with my family. My mom used to take my sister and I to see The Nutcracker every year when we were young. We've lost that tradition, but we're reprising it tonight and I'm so thankful!

After my May wedding I'll be living 8 hours away from my family, so I am soaking up all the family time I can and really making a point to appreciate it.

  • We're on our way to Frankenmuth! This makes me happy for 5 reasons- we got engaged there one year ago today, and will be shopping at entire stores dedicated to each of the following: cheese, fudge, popcorn, and Christmas stuff. Oh and we're either getting pizza or brewery food for dinner. I guess that's 6.

  • PPs, keep it coming.  This is like having hot chocolate for breakfast. It is making my morning so much better. Hugs to you CMGragain.
  • My tree has been up for almost 24 hours (struggled to get into the spirit this year) and my crazy whirlwind dog has mostly left it alone. So that's good. She's also learned to stay 85% of the time. Some of you may remember that I disliked this dog at first. I love her. She's so damn goofy and lovable. The picture is from the other morning when she decided my lap was where she wanted to nap. She's 65 pounds....

My mom had her semi-annual checkup with her Hepatologist. She has a rare autoimmune liver disease that's been in remission for 2 years. Average remission is usually less than a year. She's still in remission!

  • DH and I spent the day with DH daughter and our 7 nieces for one of our nieces 3rd birthday today. The 3 yo loves following DH around and introduces him to Everyone, even his daughter.

We also received our wedding photos yesterday and I had a lovely day putting them into the album and bringing them to DH Granny :)

I had my dream wedding on Friday! I want to do it all over again! :-) Despite the fact that I woke up in the middle of the night with chills and 101 fever, DH and I are leaving soon for his brother's surprise 30th bday party. Fortunately the fever has stayed away. @CMGragain‌, I'm sorry you're feeling down. I hope you feel better soon. *Hugs!*

  • I normally do all of the holiday baking for my family and DH's. For me, baking is the sign that the season had started.

I just had DH's 3 nieces and nephews over to bake cookies. I'm now stained with food coloring and have a trashed kitchen but I sent home 3 happy kids with full bellies and sugar highs. His brother and SIL haven't had alone time in months so taking them for the day was a huge favor.

I'm the best fucking SIL ever. I hope to start my own holiday baking next weekend.

  • Hope you feel better CM, don't worry, these things all pass! I'm trying on my wedding dress today to see if it needs to be taken in at all by the seamtress. Then I have my hair trial appointment and this evening I'm meeting up with the violinists to figure out what they will play for the ceremony and cocktail hour. That's very exciting!

  • I probably shouldn't be happy about this, but my shithead cousin finally got taken into police custody, which means my parents can sleep in their house without locking their bedroom door. Also means that he can't ruin Christmas for DH!

  • I've had the blues lately too. It seems like everything that can go wrong, has gone wrong. I keep trying to remind myself that things really are great and that I have so much to be thankful for (which really is true and I know that). I give myself a little time to feel cranky and down, and then my cat meows at me and I eat a delicious brownie and that makes things a little better.
