Finally done!!! Husband and FIL did the whole thing for about $1600 (including an electrician for the exhaust fan and wiring)

  • Ooh I love the shower curtain you picked! Everything looks great! Must be awesome to have all that storage under the sink.

  • Wow that's great! Can I hire your husband to remodel my bathroom? haha

  • @lolo883 yes the storage will be so exciting! and the counter space, I had no where to place a blow dryer or anything before. Well there was no plug for a blow dryer and now there is so double the win!

@behsco90 Yea it will just take forever hahaha. He's been doing bits and pieces since June!

  • Looks awesome!! Can your H come finish my bathroom too? Mines stopped any progress on our bathroom :(
  • Yay! You must be so happy it's done. This might sound kind of weird but I really love my bathroom. I don't spend a ton of time in it but I love it and it makes doing boring shit like blow drying my hair way more enjoyable. Agree with Lolo, love your shower curtain and the sink storage!
  • Was this the bathroom where the tile kept popping off? I liked the tile, but I totally understand why it had to go! The new design is great. It's very charming and cute, love the beadboard!

  • Nice improvements!!

  • So pretty and fresh and bright! I did almost identical beadboard and trim in mine. And the shower curtain (and window curtain) are perfect! I love freshly remodeled rooms. The smell of new construction is so great.
    Enjoy.
  • Love your vanity!

  • @sbmini Yea the tiles look like the real 50's ceramic ones but they were actually thin plastic! What a jip! So they were always popping off. When I bought the house 4 years ago, I was like"aw it's so vintage and cool". After looking at that for about 6 months I was over it and hated it hahahha

  • Great job!

The bathroom is our next project and I'm dreading it... DH can do it himself but it will take 6 months for us too.

@emmaaa I know! I'm actually really bummed/ pissed that we are doing all this work and we are going to sell and move into a place that's not updated. But this is only a 2 bedroom with a small lot and one car garage. Would not be conducive to the kids we hope to have! Husband says all the time let's not have kids and stay here because it would be paid off in about 8 years. Suuuuucks I really wish I had the foresight at 24 years old to have bought a larger place. An addition would not work for us since we'd lose the whole back yard and still be in a crappy school district. Oh well, I keep telling him remember how you did this so you can do it in the next home!

I definitely understand the need to move. FI and I just rent for now and it's 2 bedroom. We want to stay there until we build a home in the next 4-5 years. So it would hold one baby but no more and we'd have to move.

  • Wow, this is actually really helpful because it's literally the FIRST bathroom I've ever seen that is laid out just like the downstairs one at our rental property. I haven't been able to find a single other picture online or anywhere for ideas! Our additional challenge is ours is even narrower - when you sit on the toilet your knees are just about hitting the side of the tub. :( Because of the narrowness I feel like we also need to go with like a mini-sink that barely sticks out from the wall, but your pictures give me hope...

You guys must have a nice chunk of equity in your home. It is going to suck to sell it after you get it how you like it- but just think of the downpayment you'll have! You could easily use that money to cut the number of years it will take to own your next place. And it will actually be a place where you can live for 8+ years.

@sbmini That is my plan! Say for example our budget was $10 most people would get a loan for $10 and use that $3 to get something that costs $13. But I'm dead set on staying in the $10 budget and then having a $7 loan for a shorter time. I won't get something as nice and updated as I want but it'll be worth it when it's paid off 15 years before retirement.

  • Did you use wood wainscoting that you paint or the pre-white stuff? We're thinking about doing this in our bathroom, but haven't decided what way to go.

    image
  • @southernbelle0915 It was prepainted white and came in $20 squares at Home Depot. So I'm guessing it's just cheap pressboard type stuff, not real wood. Super easy to put up though, glue the back and nail gun.
