Ok future brides! It has recently passed the 5 month marker till my wedding and it seems like planning is going well for me. I've gotten a lot of planning done which gives me time to actually relax around the holiday season. Phew!

Does anyone else feel like time is passing extra slow but fast at the same time? (If that makes sense) It seems like 5 months is a looong time but when I talk to others they assure me its going to pass by in the blink of an eye.

Any tips about enjoying this brief engagement stage?

Re: 5 Month Mark

  • I feel the same way! I have A LOT of things that we've completed already, so I feel good about that. But lately I've been having nightmares about the things we haven't completed yet. Literally nightmares...two nights in a row! One was us on our wedding day and we realized we never bought our wedding rings (something we still need to do) and the other dream was that I was getting ready and the makeup/hair stylists were late and I ended up hating my hair (still need to find stylists) and then we realized we couldn't even get married because we forgot to get our marriage license! haha!

So I guess my hope for the next 5 months is to minimize the wedding nightmares. And to just complete everything else that needs to get done, which isn't really much, I guess!
  • I am feeling the exact opposite. In fact, I almost started a thread asking if I was too far behind, but decided against making myself feel worse. There's really not much left to do at the moment, but I'm feeling the pressure and I wonder when the stress will set in.

I had the same nightmare about the wedding rings. And the next day I told my FH we needed to go order them lol. I am feeling a little stressed because I don't want to forget anything. But I know that we have a lot done.
  • @JessGuess23 it's so true! Now that all the big things are taken care of, the things you know you wouldn't have forgotten (venue, music, dresses, food, invitations etc), it's the less obvious stuff that I'm worrying about.

If anyone is getting their makeup professionally done, how far out do you think that needs to be booked? I've been searching for makeup artists recently because of my nightmares haha!
  • I'm feeling like I'm constantly forgetting things and the wedding day will show up and it will all crash and burn because I never did half the stuff that I needed to do.  Yeah, I'm not stressed at all...
  • My wedding was pushed back from feb til may and now i feel behind again. I don't have anything ready and need to call and check on so many things lol...omg....

  • @yogablossom‌ I know it's the less obvious stuff I don't want to forget lol. About hair and makeup I already had my trials and booked my hair stylist and make up artist. I think you should try and book someone before the end of January. I wanted to get that done quickly because I have a lot of bridesmaids and I needed to know what time we have to start getting ready if they all are getting both hair and makeup done.
  • Booked my MUA yesterday! I'm officially  on my 5 month mark today. Since i have to rearrange things its tough but so far so good :)

@JessGuess 23 -- yes that is next on my radar. I am getting SO nervous about it! I think I know who will be doing hair, but it's finding a makeup person that is stressing me now.  I live 2 hours away from where my wedding will be, so I have to find time to drive back and forth to get trials done. It's going to be such a pain in the @$$. That and I feel like it's going to cost me a small fortune--trials are SO expensive!! And all that gas money!!
  • @yogablossom‌ I know what you mean. It's like paying for the actual thing twice. Are you getting ready close to the venue or closer to your house? You could look for someone who won't charge an arm and a leg to drive to you or you can look for a salon that's close to either spot. For my friends wedding we all went to a salon and got everything done, hair and makeup. And then for another wedding we got ready at the hotel and had the MUA and HS come to us.
  • Four month mark today!! Eek!!

  • OMG...four??? AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
  • @JessGuess23 we are  getting ready at my house. My best friend's hairstylist who did her wedding is going to do our hair for a fraction of what it would cost at his salon, thank god! But the makeup is still the worst so far! I've got two trials set up, but I am unsure of how many I should do. The more I do, the more broke I'll be haha!
  • Gah-- I am feeling behind, too!  We still need to book our florist, and I need to figure out what to do with hair and makeup.  Then it will be all the details like invitations, escort cards, bathroom baskets.... kajdnvaiuwefljahbdfv!!!!!!

We had some major medical expenses at the end of 2014 so we had to significantly scale stuff back.  Now I'm nervous our upscale venue will look empty without dramatic flowers and other decor.  Blarg.

  • yogablossom I would recommend not doing too many trials - if you do one and it goes well, go with that person! Save the $$! haha I'm definitely doing a hair trial, but possibly not a makeup trial. With makeup I feel like you can keep an eye on them as they're doing it, and if there's something you don't like you can always wipe it off and make them re-do it on your wedding day (as long as you've set aside enough time)   I just feel like there's less room for error with makeup if you communicate what you want to the makeup artist as far as the "look" you're going for, what eyeshadow color you want, if you want lashes, etc.

  • @hsgator that is totally my plan...and somehow I've managed to book a trial with my cheapest prospect first! I am PRAYING I love the way she does my makeup! Thanks for the advice!! :)

I still have a lot to do! Most of the big stuff is out of the way (venue, photographer, caterer etc) thank goodness. I have a pregnant bridesmaid I have to find a dress for like...yesterday. We have a lot to do decorating wise as  our reception is in a pavilion so it will be DIY heavy. My head is spinning!

O did I mention we thought it would be a great idea to try and buy a house now? Awesome. Someone mentioned four month mark.... lordy lord.

  • I have to finalize hair and make up and transportation, we need to decide on rings, finish our invitations order, and then I think it's all detail stuff (I hope...). I have a stupidly long to-do list right now though, and am wishing I had just taken a personal day to deal with a bunch of things.

@camsden - We just bought a house last week. We close 2 1/2 weeks before the wedding. GAH.

May feels a hell of a lot closer this side of the holidays!!

  • @lmcooper86 - tell me about it. Pre-holidays I felt like I had all the time in the world, but now that that's all over with, I feel like there just aren't enough weekends to get everything done! I warned FI that we will have to accomplish as least ONE WR-thing every weekend from now until 5/30 :-)

I feel like I still have a lot to do... (May 16th)

    -need to book hair artist
-honeymoon is booked but still need airfare
-invitations are designed but need to be printed
-dress ordered and paid for first week of June, but waiting for it to arrive in the shop
-my wedding band is done but still waiting for my FH's to be finished (and to pay for)
    -bridal party and parent gifts
    -all the stupid little stuff!

This month we have our cake tasting and florist appointment..
  • I know what you mean about it being after the holidays now - I kept saying I would get things done after the holidays, and now it is here! I think most of my wedding related things are in process, so I don't feel too far behind yet. However, I have 4 classes I am taking this Spring for my MBA, so things might get hectic!

  • @Hummingbird125‌ Yup, I had great plans to get things done over the holidays, and very few of those things happened! I am trying to cross off something small every evening or on my lunch break, but I feel like every weekend from now until May 9th will be wedding stuff or house stuff!

  • if anyone lagging behind wants to feel better we still need:

    - catering

    - cake

    - flowers

    - DJ

    - officiant

    - wedding party attire

And probably some other stuff I'm forgetting about. The reality though is we pretty much know what we want for food (BBQ and cupcakes) and both of those don't require setting anything up ahead of time so I'm procrastinating. FI was going to figure out music although I don't want to pay a ton for a DJ for a small wedding so not sure what we will do there.

The good thing for us is the venue is very pretty and kind of speaks for itself so no need to worry about decorations or anything which is a bonus for my uncreative self

  • I agree, it feels like its going slow but also flying by. I got a lot of stuff done right away, so for awhile I felt like there wasn't much to do. Obviously there is always something to do, but I'm just now getting back into full on planning mode.

@yogablossom I actually booked by hair & makeup right away, but that is because the girl doing my hair has been doing it since high school, so I texted her immediately after signing the contract for the venue to make sure to book her. And my make up artist is actually a friend, so I made sure to talk to her right away. Also, regarding trials -I'm not doing them because I have had my hair/makeup done by both of them before so I know how their work is, and they already know how to work on me. But I know my hairstylist hates doing trials unless a bride is completely unsure of how they want to do their hair & wants to try a lot of different styles. She says (and I know from experience) that usually you cant completely recreate the same exact style twice. Not that she cant do what you want, or how she originally did it, but each time something always is a little different. Not that either time wont look fabulous, but if you are having a trial & then expecting the exact same thing the day of, it might not happen.

    I still need
-to book coach buses for the hotel shuttle, but I have been putting that off since I'm still not too sure on how many people would be using it.
    - invitations - my future brother in law is designing our invitations, so those still need to be finished & printed
    -rings
-favors -we know what we are doing pretty much, just have to order
-centerpieces -diy so still trying to get them how I want
-bridal party gifts -again, know basically what we are getting but have to actually get them
