Wedding officiant?

Hey ladies,

I would love to hear whatever pointers/advice you have about choosing and officiant. My FI and I aren't planning on having a long or religious ceremony and would like to write our own vows...Is it really that important to go on a huge hunt for a great officiant or are they all pretty much the same? Thanks for the help!

We lucked out and didn't have to hunt, the coordinator for our venue was also an officiant.  Over a few months of conversations about venue, wedding related and non-wedding related stuff I knew she would be great for us. She is super flexible as for what we want to have and say in our ceremony.

You can check out ours here at http://www.aneventtoremember.info/  She has tons of all different types of ceremonies posted that you can read through. If you are asked for a password it is AETR. She is affordable ($100 for us w/our venue) and she does travel :)

All you technically need is the "Do you? Yes. Do you? Yes. Okay, you're married"  and sign the certificate to be legally married. Everything else is just fluff.

Find someone you are comfortable with. Ask your friends or family members who had ceremonies similar to the kind you envision who their officiant was. Your venue should also have a list of suggestions available

That's great that you had it so easy. Thanks for the advice. I will check out the website for sure. :)

Or write it yourself and just have a friend or family member get ordained online through ULC (Universal Life Church) and they can act as your officiant.

There are tons of resources online for putting together your ceremony and finding just the right words.  All you need is someone legally authorized to say them and sign your marriage license!

Thank you! I was just thinking about going that route and have been trying to find out how someone could go about doing that. I love the idea of having someone who actually knows us as a couple marrying us. :)

We're looking for a 'local' officient in Portland, OR area.  Any suggestions?  It looks like the website above is an officient from California?  Nice that she's willig to travel, but there has to be some local officient recommendations out there?  Comon ladies, who are you using, where are they located and what are they charging?  Let's share!  :D

Ours is located in Salem so not sure where the CA thing came from.  Her name in Johanna Respini and is only costing us $100. She is such a good deal for us because she will be at our site the day of anyways for coordinating. Not sure what he price would be for going to Portland.
