Color advice!

Hello there everyone! I am getting married on 6/6/15 and my colors are pink/gold/ivory. However, I need help with groom/groomsmen and opinions on the look of my dress with my bridesmaids...

This is my dress:

This is what I was thinking for my bridesmaids:

Do those look okay together?

Would grey groomsmen look good? If so, should it be lighter or darker grey?

I think I might be over thinking it all but I just want it to look put together!

Re: Color advice!

  • GORGEOUS dress! You look absolutely stunning.

I don't think the dresses clash, but I also don't think they absolutely complement each other. Maybe something more simple and delicate would match more, since the light pink with lacy sleeves looks a lot heavier (and more top-heavy in particular) than your gown. However, in my opinion, I think you're overthinking it and they'll be fine unless you really want the dresses to be perfect siblings of each other!

  • What time of day is the wedding? How formal? Personally I think dark grey and pink look best for the BM/GM combo, but if its an early afternoon wedding, light gray may be more appropriate and look nicer (i associate dark colors with later in the day/more formal, but thats not a rule). If I were a bridesmaid and you asked me to wear that dress, I'd be grateful. Its something I might actually wear again! And it looks fine with your dress. Not super matchy, but still pretty and delicate.
  • Wineandsunshine- Thank you so much! That's been a struggle to find dresses since 2 of my bridesmaid require a sleeve due to religion.. but I think you're right, I think I am overthinking it!

Marie2785- It is from about 4pm-9pm. The venue is fairly formal, it is a historic hotel but not too formal, if that makes sense. And thank you, I was hoping to find something they could wear again, and cheap!

Thank you guys so much for the help!
  • I think the bridesmaid dress looks a little casual in comparison to your dress. Are you set on having all your girls match, or are they choosing different complementary dresses? Either letting them choose any blush pink dress or setting a color/fabric/designer and letting them choose a style within that would make this easier on everyone, yourself included.

I think charcoal grey or navy for the groomsmen would look great.

  • Lolo883- Thank you for the help! I love the look of mix-matched bridesmaids, it is definitely something I have been thinking about, and I agree, it would take a lot of stress off me for finding the right dress.

Based on these suggestions I am going to go look for some grey or navy suits!
  • I might go with a longer bridesmaids dress since it is a more formal wedding in the evening, but that is just my preference.
If you do go the mix-matched look with the bridesmaids, you could just tell them to pick any blush pink dress with maybe a certain length in mind, which might look something like this:
Or you could pick a designer and specific colour, length, and/or fabric, which might look something like this:

  • I love light pink with light grey. Also, you look absolutely amazing in your dress!!

  • I think grey would look really nice but I'm gonna go crazy here and suggest a tan/taupe for the groom and groomsmen as an alternative option.

It depends on the time of the ceremony, tan might be too "daytime" but that's my latest obsession.

  • Doeydo- I did really like the look of long dresses but two of bridesmaids will be pregnant and the ceremony is on a rooftop so I didn't want them to suffer too much haha. Those pictures are great though!! I love the look of them both!

Jenna8984- Thank you!! I love grey/pink as well!

Porkchops926- Tan/taupe is also a good idea.. it is also summer so I think it would be fine

I'm excited, it seems like I have a lot of options and now I don't feel as stressed about what everyone will be wearing!
  • Have you asked the pregnant bridesmaids whether they'd prefer long or short? Long doesn't have to be insufferably hot, as long as it's a light, flowy material. And long dresses may give them more coverage/flexibility when it comes to style - add a belly under some shorter dresses and suddenly you're flashing people.

THIS! If you haven't already, definitely check in with them. Especially if you like both looks!

The dresses you posted are so lovely, GL!
