Save the Date Advice Please

I have been feeling the need to send out our save the dates (our wedding is June 6) and have been looking at different styles by using the Facebook previews of our engagement pictures. We took them on December 12 but haven't gotten the higher quality digital proofs yet. If I wait for the photographer to send out our finished pictures, will it be too late to send save the dates? She didn't give me a very specific time frame as to when they would be done. I'd like to get them soon as we are inviting a lot of guests and Shutterfly is running a great deal for the next few days.

TL;DR: Wedding is June 6, when is it too late to send save the dates?

Re: Save the Date Advice Please

  • There are no strict rules on when to send save the dates.  You do not have to send any at all.  It is a relatively new custom.  About 6 months is fine.  The important rule is that everyone who receives an STD MUST be invited to your wedding, so be careful with your list.

  • I'd play around with shutterfly and an image (even one with the watermark) before you decide which company to go with. I purchased a groupon for zazzle not realizing most save the dates weren't included. Fortunately, they came out fine. I waited almost two months for my engagement photos - totally worth the wait - but I cut it close when it came to getting my pictures back, designing my save the dates and ordering.

I think you have plenty of time. My hairdresser is getting married in May and just sent hers out and I think she has out of towners. I'd give your photographer till Jan. 12th and then you can always send a friendly email asking when they'll be ready.
