No tux, just vests for the guys

I figure it will be cheaper to just purchase these vests for the men, rather than to try and find something to rent.

It will just be the groom, his father (as best man), my son (ringbearer), and probably my dad.

Where should I begin to look to find these?

First, you need to understand that this is not traditional, proper wedding attire.  Vests are not meant to be worn by themselves, without a jacket.  That is why they are sold as "accessories".

I recommend two piece business suits for men in black, navy or gray.  They do not need to match.  They are worn with white shirts and long ties.  Little boys traditionally wear Eton suits (short pants).

It is OK for you to choose to be non-traditional, but you should know the facts before making that decision.

We will now see a lot of posts from mostly younger brides who think that vests worn without a jacket look great.  Yes, you can have that opinion, but sartorial tradition still says that it is incorrect at a wedding.

Did you mean to post a link to a picture?  It isn't in your post.

  • We got these at Men's Warehouse. We purchased the pants, vest, shirt, tie for $200 each man. We bought them for the men. As previous poster mentioned its not a traditional look
And wouldn't be appropriate for a very formal wedding. Ours was daytime at a restaurant so it worked.

  • @jenna8984, at least your guys aren't wearing half of a tuxedo!

  • Vests are pretty inexpensive - even my FI's custom ones in 100% wool/silk run less than $100 regular price (but we get his suits made, so they're even cheaper as an add-on to create a three-piece suit.) You should be able to get them at any store that sells suits, so if I were you I'd just chose a store that fits your budget and your men's style, whether that's an inexpensive but generally lower-quality chain like Men's Wearhouse, or somewhere kinda mid-range like Mexx or Banana Republic. Even department stores that sell suits should be able to help you out as well. They are available pretty much anywhere you can get a suit. If you like the look, it should be very easy to locate.

If you want the guys to be able to wear the stuff again and you're looking for matching vest and pants, I'd ensure that they're 100% wool rather than a wool/poly blend (and if you can swing the cost, silk backing on the vest instead of anything artificial). They look better, breathe better, and are more comfortable. If they're only wearing it for the one day I don't think it matters so much, but if they do want to get more use out of them, fabric makes a huge difference in men's suiting for both comfort and style.

  • Our wedding is low-key and relaxed. Found a nice grey vest at Burlington Coat Factory for $30. Done. :P
