Save the Date to early?

I'm getting married in about a year. All my extended family is out of state. I would like to send out the save the dates now both to get it crossed off my list and because I think some people would appreciate lots of notice since it will be a hassle and expensive for them to get to Oregon. Is there anything wrong with sending them out this early or do I need to stick with the etiquette of 6 months out?

If you have a ton of people flying in from out of state I say the sooner the better, as long as it's 12 months away and not 48.

Exactly. Or compromise. Send STDs to those who are out of state now and send the rest at the six month mark.

I thought about doing that then I realized it would be too much for me to figure out and sort and blech.  So I compromised and went with 8months...

I agree with the compromising - I sent mine out at about 9 months since it was a holiday weekend and I think everyone appreciated the advance notice.

I am going through the same exact issue!!! I am getting married next July, and decided to be cheap haha I'm going to send the STD's out with our Christmas cards. :) It'll be like 7 months in advance, not too early, or too late for out of towners.

As a person who will cry if she doesn't have enough notice to plan for her cousins' weddings 2500 miles away, I say the sooner the better.  no less than 6 months, for sure, and more like 9-12 so people can mark off vacation time if needed and save for flights/hotel.
