which cake?

which cake do you like better having a hard time choosing between these?

Re: which cake?

  • Personally, I like the piping on the first one - but not the over-the-top flower hat that cake is wearing. Just too much. I also like the simplicity of the last one.

That being said - are you looking to directly copy one of these or be inspired by it? If it's the first, you should really make sure that your cake designer is capable of doing precisely what you want based on just a picture. If it's the second, then ask yourself: "What do I like about each of these cakes? Is there anything I would change?" Then, come up with the things you like/dislike about each one and use that to help guide your conversation with your cake designer. That way, you can come up with something that really fits your vision of your cake - and that the bakery is comfortable with and capable of baking.

Also, if the cakes are using fresh flowers as opposed to sugar ones, make sure you include your florist in on that discussion...

  • Going by shape, I love the 3rd one. The square layers with the round is eye catching.

  • I prefer the second one or the last one.

I like first and fourth best.  First for more formal, fourth for more contemporary/casual/outdoor atmosphere.
  • I like 2 and 4 the best
  • Definitely #4. I like simplicity.

  • I like #4.
I'd like #1 better if it had less flowers on top. It just seems like it's too much.

  • I love the second and the fourth cake.  The third cake is too blah.
  • I like the first, and second.
  • All depends on what you're doing.  I like the third with the round and hexagon layers with the piping work of the first and flower from the fourth, however if you're going for table cakes instead of one centralized cake, then four...

Regardless of what anyone says, I'd recommend taking all four pictures with you to your baker and combine the elements that you love from each of the cakes.  That's what you're paying them to do.  It also helps because not every baker is skilled at every design out there.  A lot of bakers won't go near gumpaste flowers and other bakers won't go near real flowers on cakes.  Those are all things you really need to discuss with them.

  • P.S. the stand is the other thing to consider - the first one likely is a "dummy cake" because finding a vase capable of handling that much weight without falling or shattering - good luck!...  Second one the stand is the problem in that it's WAY too big for that cake...
