Our school district isn't soft. They sent the kids back to school today with no delay.  I do wonder about tomorrow since it's going to be 0-ish in the morning.

DH was able to get the driveway done in 20 min with his fancy-pants (and expensive) snow blower.

This zit on my face has another on next to it.  Why does my face have to be 14 again?

DH got home on time last night and also put both kids on blast for being jerks. (He told the kiddo he was going to take bat to his phone and PS3 if he didn't shape up, ha!) It was so nice to have someone else do it.

SIL is having surgery Friday (baby/IF related stuff).  I need to send her flowers.

The snow is pretty, when you're inside and don't have to leave.

Re: Tuesday!!!

  • We cancelled and I'm not really surprised.  DH went in at 5 and is there to 6pm so I busted out shoveling while the kids watched morning show.  Today's plan is watch a movie and bake cookies.

When my SIL had surgery I sent Cheryl's cookies and she loved it.

Somehow I have snowblower drama:  FIL bought us one when we lived in BFE and had a massive drive.  We moved here and BIL moved into FIL's old house with a MASSIVE drive.  Seemed nice to give them the blower last winter.

FIL has since started a snow plowing business and does BIL's drive (for free).  BIL just sold the snowblower for $100 and pocketed the money.

  • School was called off today.  It's fine by me.  I don't want to go out.

I really don't expect them to have school tomorrow, either.  The wind chill is supposed to be -33 at 6am tomorrow morning.  DH's plant announced shutdown for tomorrow yesterday.  It's just too cold for the trucks and products.

My house is mostly back in order.  We have all of our indoor decorations and trees put away and I have toys/playsets sorted.  They just need containers for small pieces.

I also have two different paint samples on my kitchen walls.  I really hated the greige because it was too beige so I scrapped it and went with the gray that's in DD2's room.  I like it better but I'm not sure I love it.  I really hate picking paint colors.
  • I am so cranky. Someone posted on our facebook page reminding people to shovel so people can walk their dogs. Bitch please. It wasn't even 8. We are all doing our best but sometimes you can't leave little kids alone in your house and your husband has already been gone four hours AND it's still snowing. Also, I'll shovel every flake if I never have to pick up someone else's dog shit. I did haven't shoveled by 7, but damn. We're all doing our best.
  • I also organized my pots, pans and bakeware.  I got rid of stuff I haven't used in years and bought two cabinet organizers.

Then I organized my baking cupboard.

And then cleared my counters.  I'm going to keep less on them from now on.  Just the canisters, utensil holder and knife blocks.

And I have a plan for shelving in the basement for all my crockpots, blender, basically all small appliances to free up pantry space.
  • So what's she going to do if people don't shovel?  Maybe she should take a shovel with her when she walks her dog, just in case she needs to dig her pup out if it's that big of a concern.

I love when grown adults tell other grown adults what to do, especially when it comes to their own home/property.
  • We only got a couple of inches of snow last night on top of the ~4" we had.  But it's cold.  It was -7 at the bus stop this morning with wind chills 20-30 below zero.  DH was driving for work overnight and texted me this morning that he made it back OK.

6 - that is some kind of snow blower BS.  But I'm guessing this is the BIL who is usually the jerk.

  • Your BIL sucks.

Also, DH gave his uncle our old snowblower (it was too small for our new driveway).  It was his grandpa's, and then DH's other uncle had it, and then we got it.  He told his uncle that it cannot be sold and if his uncle doesn't have a use for it one day, he needs to give it back to DH or to FIL.

I love all this.  The pantry is my main issue right now--now that DS is walking, he loves to go in there and pull every.damn.thing off the shelves.  When we first moved in I just started tossing stuff in there, and I meant to go back and organize it.  Still haven't, and now that it's DS's personal playroom, it's in even worse shape.  Maybe this weekend.

All y'all are making me grateful for our weather.  DD was whining on the way to the bus stop because it was "only" 28 degrees out.  If she thinks that's cold, I really don't know what she's going to do when it drops to 12 tomorrow.  At least there's no snow.
  • I left the house this morning and H was still snuggled in bed.  He was up when I got to work, and he probably was working on getting the drive and walks cleared.  I'm sure with the new tractor+blower he'll be fine.  That thing is a beast, and I know he gets all kinds of toddler excited to use it.  So I am fine with just driving over the 4+" of snow and letting him deal.

We got most of our snow from 4pm-9pm so when I was at the old house finishing up (95% done!!!!1!) I ended up shoveling the drive, walk and steps.  It was a pain, but it just needed to be done.

So...I have to go to the house to pull up the tarps, pull painters tape and vacuum.  Then I'm DONE.  DONE DONE DONE DOOOOOOOOOONEEE.  (oh and maybe clean the front door window, but not with chemicals---oh no, that would be bad for the new stair treads).

Also also ALSO, I'm starting to feel a little wonky, hot eyes, stiff neck...and H said that the flu is going around where he works like crazy (jailproblems).  So...here I sit thinking "oh shit, what if I'm getting the flu, do I REALLY feel bad?---and how will I finish the house?"
  • Also to add...6---that is some crap H's dad or bro would pull.  In fact, I'm pretty sure something super similar has happened.  Sometimes those ILs really suck.

  • High of 73 F here today. Love it.

I'm in a mood. I think the medication I'm taking isn't working quite as well as I hoped and my happiness about just being on something inflated my sense of it working. I have an appointment next week to see what other options I have, etc.

There is some other stuff going on as well and it's just sort of on my mind. First world, white whine things.

@Heffalump, DD loves the pantry too. My solution was to ensure it's locked so she can't get in (she likes to eat dog food) but I cleared out a lower cupboard for her and I put some of her toys and some tupperware in there. So when I'm in the kitchen, she goes there to play around.
  • Man, you guys are reminding me why I love the south.:)

    Hang in there.

  • Yay for being done MrsO!  Take a rest and maybe you'll start to feel better.

I'm sorry you're still struggling PMeg.
