I knew there was a possibility this would happen but I thought, "Surely not!" But as of this morning, the day before the semester starts, there were only five students enrolled so the chair made the call to cancel my class. I'm bummed. I still have my full time job with the school and that certainly keeps me busy enough, but ultimately I'd really like to teach full time and I'm worried that taking the semester off of teaching will compromise that when I start to apply for new jobs in about a year. I've contacted another department to see if they need anyone but looking at the open/closed reports I highly doubt it.
I've contacted the local library to see if they need any volunteers, and I might also look into contacting a community center FI volunteers for as well. I'll continue to build my portfolio however I can but overall I'm bummed. I loved teaching this class next semester and I was looking forward to another awesome semester. Oh well.
Any good thoughts/ideas for keeping my teaching skills sharp are appreciated!
