BM Dress Color Dilemma

I am getting married in the fall and I like the color combination of burgundy and peach.  I think the reception hall will look lovely with burgundy and peach florals, white tablecloths and champagne runners, gold accents and the black banquet chairs (not a fan of chair covers).  The problem is that I don’t really want the burgundy or peach colors for the BM dresses and not sure about the champagne color.  What I would really like to do is have the BM dresses be navy since I think that color would look amazing with the flower colors.  Is it okay to have your BM dresses be completely different than your reception/ décor colors?  Would the navy dresses be ok?

Re: BM Dress Color Dilemma

  • Navy is a nice neutral colour. I think you would be fine :)

  • To give a visual, this is close to what I was thinking for the bridesmaid dresses.
  • Most people do not choose clothes to match the decor of their room, and I find it bizarre when they do. Navy, bright navy, and blue-grey tones like slate all look terrific with burgundy or dark wine colors and peach.

Go for the contrast, so the dresses stand out.

I always have to keep from laughing when people show wedding pictures where in all the candids BM dresses kind of flow into the same color tablecloths, and flowers on tables look like growths that go off to one side from their dresses instead of contrasting and showing up as bouquets in front of them.
  • I think that everything matching looks very, very 1990s. Having a few different colours and not making absolutely everything "your wedding colours!!" looks much more contemporary in my opinion. I cringe at those "everything is green and purple" or whatever weddings, as I would never do that at any other formal party. Having navy dresses and a subdued warm palette for the decor will be totally fine and more elegant than the matching, IMO.

  • Thanks Ladies!  I wasn't sure about it so glad I asked!
