So I figured Houston weather was like Phoenix weather. It is not. Cause we're gonna be in the low 70s and you guys are gonna be in the high 40s. NYC is gonna be in the mid-high 30s. I think you might survive this.

I would not. I would be a frozen popsicle because I do not own cold weather clothing.
Then you come right over and sit in front of my oven while I bake you up some cookies and cakes.
Cookie, I believe you were invited to hang out with me, JC, and Pinkcow the last time I was in NYC.  @LacqueredLover was invited, too.
Yep, and I was in the lovely city of Trenton that week. Ugh. And I'll be there again next week.

    Someone just kill me. Seriously.
Awwwe, are you that bummed you don't get to hang out with me? I'm flattered!  ;)

I like you and all, but I'm actually more bummed to spend the better part of 4 hours commuting. Per day. And paying for parking because there is no free parking anywhere near our office (not that you'd want to park on the street in Trenton anyway, it's not exactly safe). But I'm more bummed to not be able to have margaritas while I'm enjoying the hospitality of Trenton.

  • @Cookie Pusher - no worries.  I'm actually not a big fan of traveling to NYC next week for many reasons.  None of which involve anyone here.  I had just asked to no longer travel for my job, and now I still go every so often.  *sigh*.
  • @holyguacamole79 Ugh, traveling for work can be so stressful! I'm lucky that my job is based completely in-state so the prospects of travel are all local. I'm pretty sure DH would starve if I was ever gone for more than one night!

  • If you wear any dresses do boots and warm tights. I think that's supposed to be cute in NYC since I read NYC blogs about fashion and that's where they say boots+tights.

  • @Cookie - H is actually a pretty good cook.  When we were first engaged, I was with a client in MN and that project required 100% travel.  So I flew out Monday at the butt crack of dawn and flew back Thursday night.  I did that for almost 6 months (while planning our wedding).  It was killer.

Yea, DH is pretty much an overgrown toddler. When I was on the couch with BPPV once (completely incapacitated and unable to move), he didn't eat. I finally dragged myself off the couch around 10pm, prayed I wouldn't puke or fall down, and heated up leftovers. The poor man can't even microwave stuff without hurting himself (or figure out how long things are supposed to be heated for without asking).

  • I spent today in my office in long sleeves, long slacks, dress socks, fingerless gloves, and a light jacket. I also had the space heater on and my blanket wrapped around my shoulders. I'm in friggin north FL. It was 26 when I got up this morning.

Fuck this, I'm moving to Aruba with DH and the cats. I've a photo of my 15 lb chubberkin baby tuxedo cat this morning curled up on my recently vacated warm spot on the futon, and draped with a blankie. She's got a total expression of "Sunshine State my ass. We need to go somewhere warmer. This is bullshit."
  • It might seem crazy but a good base layer is a silk shirt, with a sweater or something over it and the coat. Then as other people have said nylons under paints are a great insulator. As long as it will not be todays weather (woke up to 8 degree and a wind chill of -10) you should be OK. Hat, scarf, gloves and I love me a good pair of Merino Wool socks.

  • I'm from Canada, and that coat you posted is not a winter coat, but more of a spring/fall coat, IMO. Warm winter coat (I just did a quick google search so example here http://www.columbia.com/womens-alpine-escape-long-down-jacket-1557331.html?dwvar_1557331_variationColor=010&cgid=women-jacketsVests) , snow pants, T-MAX thermal socks, a big warm scarf, ski mask, warm hat that covers your ears, warm ass mittens (I have a pair that is leather lined with sheep wool or something and they're good), and warm ass winter boots (NOT RAIN BOOTS), and those little hot hands pack things that you shake and are warm are a life saver as well.

I thought the same, being from Chicago. But the OP lives in TX, so that's probably pretty damn wintery to her. I sincerely doubt that she is interested in purchasing a heavier coat, that while probably appropriate for this business trip, she would NEVER use back home. Just layering up under that coat should be perfectly fine.

Precisely. The idea of a spring / fall coat actually makes me giggle. It's 42 outside right now. And Ashley is spot on - I'm not going to spend that kind of $$ on a jacket for a 2 day trip. I wore the one I posted in Chicago last January.
  • Another vote for thick fleece or athletic tights under your skirt or pants.  Today I commuted in my gym leggings under a wool pencil skirt with Sorel boots, a cami, and cashmere turtleneck on top.  I've been layering THIS down coat under my wool topcoat and it's so great.  The down is crazy light and it compresses so well under the coat, but it is still very warm.  And it's a cute coat on its own too for days that are chilly and wet but not frigid.
