I had some issue with our invites (it turned out we had a wrong address because the internets was wrong) and I've had to re-order the invites themselves. They should come in sometime in the next week or so. I already started addressing envelopes and am probably about 60% finished with that. I need to figure out the right postage for the whole package and also on our RSVP post cards and fill in the number of guests on the RSVPs.

I am planning to mail everything March 2 and our RSVPs are due April 14, which is about a week before our caterer needs final numbers. Wedding is May 2. (Edit to add wedding date).

I know it's tempting to push the RSVP deadline back and back, but ultimately it really should be tied to when you need final numbers for your vendors.

  • @JessGuess23 the ones that are held up are the "premium" samples from WeddingPaperDivas.  I also ordered from Minted, David's, and some other more basic ones from WPD that have arrived so far.  Minted were my favorites but they will be really expensive once we add everything in, so I'm hoping some of the delayed ones from WPD are a good middle ground.

  • @JCbride2015 Wedding Paper Divas is nice but I felt they were a little more money than what I budgeted for.  I ordered from Monogramwedding.com They only have  few choices but you can make it into your own.  They came out so elegant and beautiful!! Plus they were in my budget!  I Hope your samples come soon!
  • Invitations from Mygatsby arrived yesterday and they look even nicer than the online proof! Only problem is that, because they are two-layer invitations, they need to be assembled (as in, glue the layers together). Website had the option to pre-assemble them for an additional fee, but we didn't know they meant that we'd have to glue the layers together! My fiancé is going to assemble them on Saturday (he's the one that's more OCD about that stuff. I'll just start pasting things and, if the invitations aren't centered, oh well.), I'm getting the envelopes addressed at a copy store (that does thermographic printing) on Monday and hopefully we'll send them out by the beginning of March.

@JCBride2015 YES. Same problem. Wedding paper divas STILL hasn't sent me the premium samples I ordered, or some of the normal ones either, and hasn't said a word about them. I ordered them on January 10th.

    That made me really nervous.

I just ordered my invitations from Minted today. Good job WPD, lost an order over $4 samples.

(ps- yes. Minted was PRICEY. Total was around $610 for 75. Ahh! I did get a bunch of extras that I really didn't need to... shaped card, slip in liners, enclosure card, and return address printing for RSVPs and Invitations.... Recipient addressing was free :) It would have been about $200 less if I didn't get those things. But, yeah. It came out to a lot more than I had planned to spend, but the $ seemed worth it to avoid the stress of "will they come???" and "my hand hurts from writing!". Also... they were a gift from my parents, who said "no! Get all the things!!" when I told them I was going to spend around $150 and print them through Vista Print/ our own printer. )
  • @lilacck28 My WPD premium samples only came yesterday, yikes!  I think I will go with Minted and pay the extra $$ for the same reason.  Definitely a ridiculous reason to lose a sale but it makes me nervous about whether the real thing will be on time.

  • I just got my invitations from Minted yesterday! I absolutely love them. They were fairly expensive ($325 for 45 invites/RSVPs/information cards), but the addressing was free, and they also sent the vellum sheets for between the cards for free. While they're pricey, I have never had anything but an amazing experience with Minted (I've gotten Christmas cards from them, and did save the dates as well), and everything always comes out so amazing.

Having the invites in hand definitely makes everything way more real!!

  • I designed my own invites and used Vistaprint to print them. I just couldn't rationalize spending a lot on invites. We had a bunch of inserts so it would have been twice as pricey anywhere else.

  • So my RSVP date is 5/1, and I was planning on sending them out the beginning of March, about 7-8weeks beforehand so people have time. Now after reading all these posts I'm questioning it--should I be waiting?

My wedding date is 5/23/15 with a 5/1 RSVP date and I'm planning on sending my invitations out on 3/27.

Mail them 6-8 weeks before the wedding date. If you want to give your guests maximum time, do 8 weeks. But no earlier than that, unless you're having a destination wedding. If you give people too much time, they'll set the RSVP card aside and forget about it.

I had the same struggle with WPD and their thermography samples, except we did end up choosing those because there wasn't even a close second favorite between everything we looked at. And they assured us that an actual order of invitations would get processed right away (which it did). But we ended up running into ANOTHER issue with them and it's kind of a long story. I'll probably post it on the I&P board sometime soon.

They really should get their shit together.

It had to do with their custom map setting for my directions card insert, other than that the actual ordering process for the invitations was smooth. Just the samples and custom insert parts were a hassle. And I think the fact that it was thermography made it even more difficult. I'm sure you'll have better luck!

@sames52915 My RSVP date is 5/1 also - and our wedding is 5/24. I sent my invites today. I've seen a variety of timelines for when you should send your invites, and we were super excited! If you want to send you should!
  • @megangagliardi1 thanks! I've been torn since reading all these posts. I get the not giving people too much time, but I also don't want to give too little. And I really want to have as much time as possible to chase people down, or to hopefully have most of them rsvp early. We stamped & stuffed everything this weekend so still trying to decide, but will probably mail them in the next week or so
  • My wedding is 5/24. I've been planning to send out invites in the 6-8 week timeline this whole time.

But I got my invitations in the mail from minted, and I stuffed them this past weekend.... and I sent them. I got excited and just went with the flow, and listened to my mom who demanded the RSVP be too early,  (we did 4/20 RSVP date). She wanted our guests to have a few weeks  to secure their room with the hotel block we reserved, which is up at the end of march. We probably should have done an RSVP of 5/1.

SO... we sent them. And then I realized... oh no! I totally disregarded everything I knew about timelines! Oh well. I'm ready to call a bunch of people up if they forget to send the RSVPs back.
