RANDOM BUT SERIOUS ?

Now that my wedding is approaching the date I have a random question if any of you have experienced this. My monthly cycle is set to be right on my wedding day and has been for the last couple months very correct. I don't want to be on my period in my wedding dress because if you know how my cycle is I am fat, bloated, heavy and don't want to be anywhere other than curled up on my bed with my heating pad for a good 3 days... I am not on birth control what can I do to make my cycle different that month?? if anything?? have any of you brides experienced this and how have you dealt with it? It will be horrible if it happens as planned....
Soon to be Vincente

If you're not on birth control, the only ways (that I know of) to change your cycle: stress and pregnancy. So, you might be safe there with the wedding stress. I'm sure there might be other ways, voodoo magic or something else. But beyond controlling it without birth control, you might be having your period. Maybe call your gyno and express your concerns and see what they think?

  • Is there a reason why your aren't on BC?

If you don't want to have your period on your wedding day- I don't blame you- then I agree that you should probably go talk to an OBGYN.  You will likely need to get on BC to control your cycle, and there are tons of options.

  • How far off is your wedding?  If you are a few months out then I suggest to talk to your doctor.

But there isn't much you can do to really put off your period.  Maybe the stress and nerves leading up to the big day may help push it back but that can't really be counted on.  Your best bet is to just be prepared to have your period on your wedding day.  Drink lots and lots of water leading up to your wedding.  Also cut back on your salt intake.  Also keep some pain pills (midol, ibuprofen, whatever) handy in case you have some cramps.  And keep pads and tampons on the ready as well.

But just know that it will not be the end of the world if you get your period on your wedding day.

  • I had this same problem. The Monday before my Saturday wedding I started a three day juice cleanse to make sure I was super, super hydrated. This kept away the bloat, kept me from eating my butt off, and also kept my face from breaking out (juice cleanses always clear up my skin). This is totally totally not doctor endorsed, but urban legend says Vitamin C and rose hips oil can bring it early, and preemptive constant ibuprofen can keep it at bay. I went with the first and took Vitamin C and rose hips oil supplements I picked up at the grocery store. Not sure if it was the cleanse, the supplements, the placebo effect, the stress, or just mental fortitude willing my body to comply, but I magically got my period three days early and I was PUMPED.
  • I don't really know of any way to put it off if you're not on birth control. Stress will do that sometimes.  If you google "Make a period come early" there is lots of homeopathic/natural/whatever methods, but who knows if they actually work or are reliable.

For your period itself, I suggest a menstrual cup.  They hold a lot more than a tampon, you can leave them in longer than a tampon, and they do not leak, so if you put it when you put on your dress, chances are you will maybe need to change it once (and that's assuming you have a super long day. If your total time from dress to end of reception is 8 hours, you'll probably be find without changing it unless you have a super heavy period.)
