Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

Anyone know a memorial poem?

My fiance and I are going to have candles to light for our loved ones that have passed. We will light the candles during the ceremony and then bring the candles to the reception and have the candles burn all night with us. I want to put a little verse in a frame for the table...but I can't find anything.. Does anyone know of a good memorial poem? Or even a few lines? Thanks

Re: Anyone know a memorial poem?

  • is it a wedding or a funeral, i find memorial candles to be morbid.
  • Your wedding, your choice but I find it icky - especially at a reception that is supposed to be light, fun and happy.
  • we are doing the same thing, try this website!

  • I had something on my memorial candle for my mom.  It's in my bio under 'in memory of'.

I think a candle lit in honor of a loved one is very subtle (at least compared to an empty seat and other ideas) so I don't think it will be causing anybody to break down.

We had my mom's candle lit all through out the reception, I had a great time...smiled the entire time as did our guests.

  • I wasn't asking for anyone's opinion on memorial candles. But thanks for your rude We are not reading a memorial poem, I just want something to sit next to the candles as a nice gesture. thanks for the website and other poem :
  • I love the idea and now you have made methink about adding one to my program for the ceremony!! More power to you, its your day!

  • Maybe there's something a little more subtle? My father has recently passed, and I plan on incorporating his favorite color into our theme. I know someone had used dragonfly's in their wedding because that was what reminded that person of their parent passed. I know it might be hard to incorporate multiple memorials though. It's your day. Do what you want and what makes you comfortable. But know that some people will think it is morbid, and some people may be completely uncomfortable with the idea. It's a very touchy subject. My cousin wrote something in their program... maybe there is a special verse or poem they liked? Just spitballing ideas here.
