I was just thinking, with all the times Homer quit working at the plant it is amazing that Mr. Burns keeps giving him his job back. Burns must not be as big of an ass face they want you to think he is.

I've been obsessively watching seasons 2 and 3 on DVD (because those are the only two I have and I never get sick of them) and he quits multiple times in that short span. In the beginning Mr Burns always said he'd give Homer his job back because he's secretly plotting sweet revenge and wants Homer lulled into a false sense of security. 

I don't watch any of the newer seasons because I think they're awful. But from what I remember, they eventually got too lazy to give an excuse for Mr Burns' mercy.

Maybe because in the earlier seasons, Mr. Burns never remembers who Homer is?
