I Have Rage - A Vent.

I went to a new eye doctor to get an eye exam.  They asked me for my credit card number, I said why. "Just in case insurance doesn't cover it. Don't worry, we'd never charge you without calling you first." "Well... I really don't want to give you my credit card number. It's an emergency card (true) and is almost maxed out as it is." (not so true) "We won't change you without calling and getting your permission first, don't worry."  So like an idiot, I gave it to them.

Well... they called around Christmas to tell us screwed up my insurance (among other things they screwed up) and got the cheque sent to us. We haven't received it yet.

I look at my credit card today, and they put the charge on my card. I'm LIVID. So I called today and was calm at first, spoke to the person that charged the card and she was like "Well... I called you a month ago and asked for the payment." And I was like "Yes, and at that time I told you I would bring you the money once I received the cheque from the insurance company. I don't have it yet. You didn't call to see if you could put this on my credit card, and I am not happy about it. I am overdrawn (a small lie.)" "Well... you looked well off at your appointment so I didn't see the problem."

EXFUCKINGCUSE ME. I looked "well off"? What does that even MEAN.  I am mad like bees right now.

Now she says she'll reverse the charge, but it will cost me $5.00. I was like "Well if you would have bloody talked to me first then we wouldn't be in this position so no, I will not be paying you an extra charge." Like FFS.

If I accidentally punch her, I will be starting a GoFundMe for bail money. I'll be sure to post the link. (Sarcasm. Please don't disown me.)

    Oh sweet Jesus.

I think you should speak with the dentistoptometrist--his employee just screwed you, but more importantly, she was VASTLY unprofessional to tell you she charged your card because you "looked well off." Absolutely not. If I had an employee who took those kinds of liberties and then told the patient she did so, she'd be GONE.

Edited to make any sense/use the right doctor. God I need coffee.

  • I would definitely speak to the doctor.  His office staff is run by morons.  You're not seeing my old optometrist are you?  The last time I saw him, I gave my credit card to the office staff to pay for my copay.  I get the receipt back and see that they applied my payment to someone named Rose.  Like, how did you fuck that up?  I walked up after you called MY NAME, gave you a credit card with MY NAME on it, and you still managed to fuck it up?

The excuse of "well you looked well off" is making me livid for you.  That is so unprofessional.  Who says that to a patient?!

I second this. This seriously makes me ragey for you. I would definitely speak to the optometrist and let him know you're reporting his business for fraud, and let him know how his dumbass employee handled the situation. (spoiler alert; NOT WELL)

  • Ditto the others.   I'd get in touch with the actual physician immediately.   Call and say that you have an emergency and need to speak directly with the doctor.

No way would I be cool with that.   Unless the doctor was the best, I'd be considering a call for my records.
  • I hardly complain to people I don't know but in this situation I would be complaining a lot to the doctor. This isn't cool and you deserve to be mad! This is close to home (I have to check my eyes every six months due to my high eye pressure). And if they charged me on a credit card, I would go to the office and demand they fix it. I hope you work it out!

  • I would first, dispute the charge with my credit card. Then, I would contact the doctor's office and let the doctor know what happened or demand to speak to the office manager and go from there. I would be livid. And she's outside of her mind if she believes she's going to charge YOU $5 for her massive, massive fuck up.

  • I am livid FOR you! I don't get how people get away with being so unprofessional! I would not pay one cent and definitely talk to the optometrist.
