Rehearsal Dinner

Who is supposed to be invited to the rehearsal dinner? Is it just the wedding party and family or is the wedding party supposed to bring dates? How exactly does that work? Also, if your wedding rehearsal is at a different location than the actual dinner what order do you follow? Rehearsal and then dinner or dinner and then rehearsal? HELP PLEASE

Re: Rehearsal Dinner

  • Anyone at the rehearsal needs to be invited to the rehearsal dinner, as do their significant others. It is also customary to invite VIP guests (parents, siblings, grandparents).

  • Anybody who needs to rehearse should be invited. But you can always invte more people if you want to. Just like the wedding, SOs need to be invited. The rehearsal is done before the dinner. It is completely fine for the rehearsal and the dinner to be at different locations.

  • Who is supposed to be invited to the rehearsal dinner? Anyone you require to be at the rehearsal plus immediately family and anyone's SO. Is it just the wedding party and family or is the wedding party supposed to bring dates? Each guest should be invited with their SO. How exactly does that work? Also, if your wedding rehearsal is at a different location than the actual dinner what order do you follow? Most people do rehearsal, then immediately go to have dinner/lunch. Rehearsal and then dinner or dinner and then rehearsal? HELP PLEASE

If you don't need a rehearsal, you don't need a rehearsal dinner.  The dinner is a Thank You to the people for attending your rehearsal.  You invite everyone who had to attend the rehearsal along with their Significant Others; i.e. parents, grandparents, bridal party, readers, child attendants and their parents.  If the dinner is at a different location than the rehearsal (which I would expect), you finish the rehearsal, announce that it takes approximately 15 minutes to drive to The Chop House restaurant on Main Street, we have the party room in the back, see you all there in about 15-20 minutes.
  • PPs covered it, but also invite the officiant.

Just wanted to add that by choosing your wedding party you have started to create your rehearsal dinner guest list by default.  If someone has offered to host the rehearsal dinner for you be extremely clear about the MINIMUM list of people that need to be invited - the list people mentioned above.

If your host does not want to incur that cost do NOT let them cut the list.  Host it yourself, or skip a rehearsal altogether which eliminates the need for a dinner.
